Rebel Fleet / End Titles, in my opinion.

Followed closely by A New Hope / End Titles.

I will, however, always have a soft spot for Ewok Celebration, after all it's what I grew up with (for reasons unknown, RotJ was the first SW film I saw).

The Clones finale represents Williams's new writing at its best, I think. As good as those of Star Wars and Empire? Nope. But it's very cool stuff, even if the rest of the score is so-so. And the statement of the Emperor's theme, which was cut from the album, adds a lot. I've edited a DVD rip - it's practically free of sound effects - in. Nice. By the way, the first forty-one seconds of this aren't included in the film. Beginning with the escape of Dooku's starship through the launch tube, the beginning of this cue was replaced in the film by tracked music and (apparently) rescored material. Another thing: the Imperial March was never meant to be heard in this track. A nonthematic explosive finale was originally written for the clone army scene, but Lucas asked Williams to rescore the scene.

I'd love to hear that original score for the "Dawn Of The Empire", but I'm glad we got the rescored IM. It's just surprising in retrospect, that the one all-out IM in the prequels comes in Episode II and not Episode III.

Heh, that's kind of interesting; never thought about it that way before. The closest we actually get to an all-out Vader's Theme in ROTS is on the Star Destroyer's bridge, to my memory. Either that or the "Clash of the Lightsabers" reprise.

I'll also third that I'd love to hear (at least some of) the original "Dawn of the Empire". grin

Edit: Forgot to give a nod to "Victory Celebration" in the ROTJ SE in my last post; what a way to score the end of the galaxy's troubles. It's one of the pieces of music that sounds so much more meaningful after the PT.

You can hear a tiny bit of the original finale in the "Across the Stars" music video at 0:51.

I voted for The Empire Strikes Back. 'The Rebel Fleet and End Title' is one of my very favourite tracks from all of the scores. I love the medley of the Imperial March, Yoda's Theme and Han Solo and the Princess (the closest thing I've seen to a studio recording of a concert suite of that theme - if there is another, let me know as this is a great theme), I love how it all segues so well, and of course the final fanfare, the stuff that trailers are made of, is unbeatable.

There's also a concert suite of that theme on the City of Prague's: Music From The Star Wars Saga (Silva)

But IMO, The Gerhardt ESB CD, is, in some songs superior to the OST! The city of prague CD is decent, but with only one track from episode II and one track from ROTJ, theres some real omissions, it really should have been a double CD like their Star Trek album and their LOTR album.

I voted for ANH, The Throne Room is unforgettable. The Rebel Fleet/End Title in ESB comes in close behind and I am loving A New Hope/End Credits from ROTS.

6. The Phantom Menace - I like Augie's Municipal Band but the bridge into the credits needed some work. The credit music itself is okay but I don't like the shortened version of the main theme towards the start of it.

5. Return of the Jedi - I like the choir bit very much though I wish it had been extended and thus provided an actual bridge into the credits. Though the spacing on the cd is okay I suppose. Like a dramatic pause. But the thing that doesn't do it for me is the Ewok Parade music. I mean it's chapter six and the complete end of the saga and we're listening to cute music. Not the right mood.

4. A New Hope - Perfect bridge and the music is great. But even with that it's still not my favorite strangely enough. But it set the bar for the rest.

3. Attack of the Clones - On the soundtrack it's great, but the film version hurt it. Though I'm basing my decision off the soundtrack version anyway so it doesn't effect my ultimate decision here. I think the love theme bridge into the credits was perfect. Still not a fan of the shorted star wars fanfare version but absolutely loved the reprisal of Anakins theme at the end. Very dark and ominous. Oh and the Imperial March at full blast didn't hurt either. But I wish they had included the Emperor's theme before the dark female solo.

2. The Empire Strikes Back - Love everything about it really. The bridge into the credits is once again perfect. It's not as long as I would have liked but oh well. Fast paced and in your face reprisals. Can't beat Han and Leia's love theme. If I can find a place to download the concert version of it, I would. But I'm not buying an entire cd just for one song. Oh and the unique ending was interesting. Very good.

1. Revenge of the Sith - Okay so maybe the cd version needed more music before the actual credit music hit, but I loved it anyways. The emotion it brings out. First Leia's theme, then Luke's theme. Finally the force theme going into the credits. Finally a prequel cd with the complete star wars fanfare theme at the start and end of the credit sequence. Though the film version's wasn't complete sadly. sad Leia's theme once again playing was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Then comes a shortened version of Battle of the heroes followed with my favorite portion of any cd credit music, the throne room sequence. Just hearing it on the cd was awesome. It totally expressed what I was feeling. The circle was complete. Star Wars is over. Too bad it didn't make the film though.

In the film, there is no pause. "Victory Celebration" goes right into "End Title."

Episode three, because it goes from Leia's theme to a lullaby sounding part before you go to the Force theme, then Battle of the Heroes, then the Throne Room. It is pure magic.

I hate to admit it, but I like the yub nub ewok celebration (the film version with human voices, not the cd version with artificial ewok voices) better than the victory celebration they replaced it with in 97.

Love the ROTJ ending. Don't know what it is that attracts me to it, it's just amazing. And the music fits well with the scenes.

For me, its a tie between Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith, but seeing as how Jedi has always been my fav, i would have to go with jedi,IF I HAD TO CHOOSE.

Does the Gerhardt CD have the same arrangement as the Prague CD? I have the latter, and I love the arrangement on it. I especially love how Leia's Theme is quoted, seeming to come in out of nowhere (a frequent quality of that theme that I love; see how it just comes in out of nowhere in Yoda's Death and in the ROTS finale and end credits), then the key changes and you hear her theme again. I'm just wondering if the other CD has the same or a different arrangement.

All six of the End Credits tracks are some of my favorite tracks from the whole saga. Here's my thoughts on each one, in reverse preference order:

5. (Tie) A New Hope: Yes, the Throne Room is great. But I can't get a version that I really like. The Skywalker Symphony version sounds really good but is just too damned long. Once through, like in the film, would be great. The film version is the right length, but I really don't like the way it sounds. The End Credits also don't really sound a whole lot like the rest of the End Credits. In all the later movies, the first statement of Luke's Theme is on trombones; here it's on French horns, though in the Skywalker Symphony version it sounds like trombones may have been added to the horns. The credits didn't really have proper statements of the principal themes of the episode, either. Yes, Leia's Theme is stated briefly, but it's nothing like the concert version, unlike how it would be in other End Credits tracks (i.e. how it was in the ROTS End Credits). And yes, the main Star Wars theme (all parts of it, Luke's Theme, the Rebel Fanfare and at least one other theme that I don't think actually has a name) receives a proper statement, but it gets attention in all the other End Credits tracks too. But the Force Theme should've gotten some attention in the End Credits. Oh well, still a good track, despite its shortcomings.

5. (Tie) The Phantom Menace: I love this incredibly upbeat version of the Emperor's Theme we get in Augie's Municipal Band. It has some pretty cool trombone parts toward the end of the finale sequence (I am a trombone player, so I notice and love these things). End Credits: I'm a huge fan of Duel of the Fates, so this gets points for the full concert version of that. But I really don't care too much for Anakin's Theme (a rather boring, derivative theme that wasn't really given time over the course of one movie to fully develop, and was nearly ignored in the other two prequels), so that doesn't do anything for me. I dislike the fact that the credits don't end with the same statements of the main theme that ROTS, ANH, ESB and ROTJ end with (although ESB's is shortened, and ANH's blends in with the rest of the track). And the whole track has that same feeling that the entire soundtrack has for me, that of being good music that isn't sufficiently tied to any movie scenes to which I am emotionally attached, leaving me with a bit of an empty feeling. That's probably due to the poor quality of the movie itself. But hey, it's still a fun track, and I still like it despite those complaints.

4. Return of the Jedi: I haven't heard Yub Nub in years, and haven't found (actually, I've barely even looked) for a recording of it, so I can't comment on that. However, I love Victory Celebration. Has a nice peaceful tone to it, and as someone already said, it has a lot more meaning after seeing the prequels. It loses a bit for having a weird bridge into the End Credits (something that I think most of the other End Credits tracks did well). But I love how Parade of Ewoks ends (again, cool trombone stuff) and segues into Luke and Leia, and how that theme ends and segues into the End Credits finale. Overall a nice, solid track that I really enjoy listening to.

3. The Empire Strikes Back: This one's great, though a bit short. Nice statement of the Force Theme, then on to one of my favorite versions of Han Solo and the Princess. I really like the way that theme bridges into the End Credits. I love how all the themes in the End Credits are the same tempo. The faster versions of Yoda's Theme and Han Solo and the Princess really work well. Rather than sounding rushed, as one might expect, it sounds more to me like it's trying to get you to hurry up and watch ROTJ before you lose momentum. The faster Yoda's Theme also sounds nice and playful. The version of the Imperial March actually sounds a little better than the similar portion of the concert version, in my opinion. And the way Han Solo and the Princess makes its brief reprise is really cool. I dislike the fact that the finale of the End Credits doesn't include as much of the Main Theme and Throne Room motif as ROTS, ANH and ROTJ, but at least it's there. Overall, the track works very, very well.

2. Revenge of the Sith: This would be my favorite, were it not for the fact that the CD version is so vastly inferior to the movie version. The CD recording should have included all that music from the Obi-Wan/Yoda/Bail conference about what to do with Luke and Leia, and Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine overlooking the construction of the Death Star, and all that other stuff from the end sequences. However, I do like the statements of Leia's Theme and Luke's Theme, and the wonderful reprise of Binary Sunset. Then the End Credits' opening is a little slowed down (only a bit, but it's noticeable to someone with a pretty solid musical background), but it works well, given the tone of the ending. The proper version of Leia's Theme that should have appeared in the ANH End Credits finally comes up here. It was an awesome, and welcome, surprise. I think it actually sounds a little better than the concert version. The segue into Battle of the Heroes is great. Now as for that Throne Room part: I loved it at first, but now I just wish we had the movie version of the End Credits (if not the movie version of the finale). It's a nice tribute to the saga, but I just don't know that it really fits there, and if you're going to do a tribute to the saga, where are some of the other themes (most notably, the Imperial March, Yoda's Theme and Duel of the Fates, which I think is the predominant theme of the prequels)? Oh well, it's really nice how the track ends with the same reprise of the Main Theme and the Throne Room motif that we get at the end of the OT episodes. I think it's the exact same arrangement as we hear after Luke and Leia in the ROTJ End Credits. It's a nice way to tie the prequels in with the originals. I wish TPM and AOTC had ended in that way as well.

1. Attack of the Clones: I've always loved this one. It also helps, at least for me, that the CD version is so much better than the movie version. I love the initial statement of the Force Theme, and I love the female vocal solo. The full-blown rendition of the Imperial March is really stirring, and the version of Across the Stars that plays just before the End Credits (best bridge to the End Credits out of all six, by the way) is one of the most moving bits of music in the entire series, certainly the most sweeping rendition of that love theme. The End Credits is standard fare, though it loses a little for only having one theme to include. I dunno, maybe they could've used the Trade Federation march here or something. Or maybe the separatists' theme. Oh well, Across the Stars works very well, even though I would've liked a little more variation. But it's the last minute or so that really grabs me. Even though I really like the way the OT and ROTS ended with the Main Theme, the ending on the CD version of this track is awesome, with the brief statements of Anakin's Theme, Across the Stars and the Imperial March all intertwined in a wonderfully dark bit of music. It's awesome.
