I'm listening to all the Star Wars scores in production order. (ANH to ROTS) At the moment I'm up to Alliance Assembly from ROTJ which is great.

Currently listening to Danny Elfman's Charlotte's Web

I cannont describe how disappointed I am with this score. It's not bad (outside some of the blatant quotes from Corpse Bride), but there's nothing really special about it. It doesn't hold my attention at all. I honestly think this the first time I've ever been really disappointed by Elfman. I suppose everyone has their off days.

I think I'll go listen to Serenada Schizophrana instead.

I 100% agree. Elfman really dropped the ball with this one. Completely uninspired and unmemorable.

Since getting it, I've listened to it all the way through maybe twice.

Some songs on the 4 harry potter movie soundtracks.

Rocky 4 - Training Montage.
Rocky 4 - I can't remember the name, but it is played basically during the fight, around the middle of it when Rocky comes back. I stop listening to the part when the song sounds like a trumpet and drums like a bad guy theme. But I still like it.

Currently listening to The Empire Strikes Back. It's probably been close to six or so months since I've listened to a SW score, so it seemed like an appropriate time to bring this one out.

I'm doing the same thing right now. Currently at "The Battle of Hoth."

Don't you just love "Indians" from BTTF 3? And the awesome "Wild West" theme?

Absolutely. I love how he weaves the Wild West theme into the 3 "Train" cues. And the End Title is the best of the three films.

The Departed - Howard Shore

Just got back from seeing this at the theater. I'm really glad they did a re-release because I never got the chance to see it during its initial run. I've heard many people say that the score was "under mixed" in the film, but it didn't seem like it to me. I thought it played out nicely except for some scenes where it was chopped up pretty badly. I particularly liked how "Billy's Theme" was used (one of my favorite cues of the year).

What a great film. It's not often that I come out of a film grinning ear-to-ear because I had such an amazing time. Scorsese is really overdue for his Oscar -- I'm crossing my fingers.

Notes on a Scandal - Philip Glass

One thing that I do that I'm sure many of you do as well is judge a score without hearing it in the context of the film. After my first few listens to this score, I thought it was good, but not great. However, after having seen the film today, I have completely reversed my feelings. The score works so well in the film, it's amazing. Some may think it is too over the top, but I would disagree.

The movie itself is great. Dame Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, and Bill Nighy give outstanding performances in this incredibly creepy "relationship" film.

While I was impressed with Helen Mirren's performance as Elizabeth II in The Queen, Dench deserves her second Oscar for her role as Barbara. She does an amazing job.

The Good German, Thomas Newman - Absolutely fantastic score. Definitely my top favorite of 2006.

And even though it's not a score, I just picked up Steve Reich's Music For 18 Musicians and it's incredible. I have a feeling Williams was inspired by this piece for "The Mecha World" from A.I.
