Right now I'm loving ANH and POTC3. On top of that, my mom bought me John William's Greatest Hits for my birthday, so I'm loving that! And then of course... I LOVE ROTS!

Casino Royale

I'm on a Bond kick right now. I just heard the REAL "Tomorrow Never Dies" theme, written by David Arnold and sung by k.d. lang. It's an actual Bond song, not the crap that is the Sheryl Crow version. It was renamed "Surrender (Tomorrow Never Dies)" if anyone intends to look for it, and it also plays over the film's end credits.

Yeah, it's unfortunate they didn't use Arnold's original song. Not only is it simply better than the one by Crowe, but Arnold also worked it in quite nicely with the score which was always a hallmark of the earlier Bond films.

Now Playing: Kilimanjaro - To The Roof Of Africa by Alan Williams

A wonderful score to the IMAX documentary. It certainly draws a lot of influence from JNH's Dinosaur, but never over does it. Although, he does shamelessly rip the main theme from Horner's Legend's of the Fall in two of the tracks. What is it about that theme? It seems a lot of composers derive quite a bit of material from that one.

John Debney's score for the video game Lair.

Debney is a hack, but an incredibly entertaining hack. This score is big, bold, brassy, and very thematic (even though it sounds like Williams a little too much here and there).

How can something sound "too much like Williams"? The range is only "sounds nothing like Williams" to "sounds JUST like Williams", and when you reach the top you're pretty much good to go I'd think...

If it sounded exactly like Williams, then I wouldn't listen to the score. I'd just listen to Williams.

My point is that Debney's writing has no real style of its own and tends to sound like Williams a little too often (as well as other composers). But not so much that I can't enjoy the music.

Aaron Zigman

Bridge to Terabithia (Promo)

I'm very impressed with Zigman's work on this score. He definitely has a unique style that he's bringing to the table, though some of his action music is a little too reminiscent of the stuff John Williams writes. Not a bad thing in and of itself, but its already been done.

Glad to see someone else enjoying Bridge to Terabithia; one of this year's few highlights. I would also recommend the expanded album of The Notebook. A wonderful score with a gorgeous main love theme.

Now playing: Sabrina by John Williams

I'm trying to finish up writing a paper, and I'm finding this album to be a great compliment. I've never really understood the criticisms against this score. Sure, it's not Williams' finest hour, but I can't find any faults in it. It's simply enjoyable.

I love listening to the Pirates of the Caribbean music as well has John Williams' Harry Potter Score. I don't listen to the new scores by the other composers who did the other two HP's cuz it's nothing like "the" John Williams score. My friends all laugh at me cuz I listen to movie scores while they listen to rap. They think it's "elevator music"

A View To a Kill. Well, technically I'm watching the movie, but ya gotta love Barry's bringing back the OHMSS bass line.

Empire of the Sun - John Williams

I had forgotten how good this is. It's nice to revisit a remarkable score after a year or so of not hearing it. Kind of like discovering something new yet familiar.
