Sorry if this has been discussed, but Christopher Young has replaced Danny Elfman in the SM franchise, and I'm wondering what you all think of this. Young certainly did some impressive horror with the first two Hellraisers, and The Core was quite good, but on the whole when I think of his work I think more subtle and restrained than superhero action fare. . .

If Raimi needed a new composer, why not go back to Joseph LoDuca?

I am very disappointed about Elfman not returning, as I am a huge fan of him in general and his Spider-Man scores in particular. But, considering how they treated his music in the second film, I understand his refusal to come back.

Young's music for Spider-Man 2 was decent, but sounded a little too much like his music for the Hellraiser series and nothing like Elfman. Hopefully he'll at least attempt to keep thematic continuity.

I wouldn't have minded John Debney signing on to score this third film, considering his pizza delivery cue from Spider-Man 2 handled Elfman's themes and sound much better than Young's cues did.

I thought Elfman did the music for both.

He did, but Young and Debney wrote a few cues that replaced some of Elfman's music. Last minute editing I think is what caused it.

I wish he would have LoDuca`s Army of Darkness score was most impressive

I like Young but his only trully excellent score was Hellraiser

I don't care for the Spiderman score's so far. Hope Young can change that.

LOL I could see that

I really wish he went with LoDuca,on the commentary for his movies Raimi talks about how much he loved working with him,and Elfman said Sam was his second favorite director to work with, and now he says the fans are the reason an Evil Dead remake is being made when we are clearly aganist it. I think Sam is becoming screwed up...

I thought Spider-Man 2 sucked, so I agree with your opinion.

I'm a fan of Chis's (I loved The Glass House) but I agree, his style doesn't seem suited for the Super-Hero genre. I'm interested to see what he'll do with the score.

Actually... that WAS the music from Hellraiser II. I read an interview with Danny Elfman about a month and a half ago, just before they announced that Christopher Young was going to compose the music for SM3, and he said that Sam Raimi had placed the opening theme from Hellraiser II in a couple of scenes for the temp track for test screenings. He got so attached to that music that he wanted Danny Elfman to adapt it for the movie. Elfman declined, saying that he told Raimi to contact Christopher Young about that since he wanted to compose nothing but original material for the film, not adapt other people's music. Christopher Young didn't have time to do it, so Raimi just purchased the rights to that piece of music and just left it in the film as is. Elfman was not pleased with this according to the interview, and got into a few heated arguments with Raimi, and afterwards he said he'd never work with him ever again.

Oh well. We'll see how this works out. His scores for the Hellraiser films, Fly II and Nightmare on Elm Street 2 were pretty cool in my book... but a HUGE film like this? Time will tell.

What part of Spider-man 2 had the Hellraiser music in it?
