I love this soundtrack. The main theme is memorable to me. The pace of the soundtrack is just great.

Anyways, I enjoyed the movie too. Many may contest my opinion, but this is the best XMen Movie besides the being too short thing.

From listening to the score while watching the movie I found it very cliché, just like the film itself.

The score is only ok as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't heard it in the film but on CD it has little focus, one good theme and a bunch of mediocre ones, and a very boring section of music early on.

Color me disappointed. And I usually love Powell's work.

Well, after seeing the film I can say that I definitely like the score more as a result. I'm just really disappointed that the film version of the Main Title didn't end up on the album. It's vastly better than the CD version.

You didn't feel it was too over-the-top and melodramatic?

I found the Main Title and Dark Phoenix Tragedy (and possibly Storm's entrace at Alcatraz- is that on the CD?) to be excellent- but everything else seemed uninspired and unmemorable in the extreme.

Angel's Theme was great, as was the San Francisco Bride sequence.

And agreed: "Dark Phoenix Tragedy" and the "X-Men Main theme" are really awesome.

I finally got the score and it barely stands out more on CD than in the film - except that I (also) like Dark Pheonix' Tragedy, Attack on Alcatraz and Pheonix Rises

however, after listening to it I was humming ANTZ and ... of all the things... Godzilla (it was on TV two days ago tongue ) raised_brow

Thanks, Strilo. happy

Now, on to what I asked in the locked thread:

The track listing of X-Men: The Last Stand on the back of the CD case indicates that "Phoenix Rises" runs 6:29. Quite clearly, however, the track only stretches to around 4:20 when actually played. Was the track listing a mistake (though I don't see how 6:29 can possibly be mistaken for 4:20) or was it edited to match its final length in the film at the last minute?

I've seen comments online that it's the largest action cue Powell's ever written, which simply isn't true if it's shorter than both "Attack on Alcatraz" and "The Battle of the Cure."

Does anyone know what the deal is? I'd hate to think an entire two minutes of such an awesome composition was left off of the soundtrack.

As far as I'm aware the track time is just a misprint. The whole cue is there, though I think it's cut into several tracks on the album.

A whole bunch of tracks comprise basically one sustained action sequence, cut into shorter, but gapless, tracks on the CD.
