I think what bothered me most about The Bourne Ultimatum was the lack of variety in the music. It's almost all non-stop action. It worked well in the movie, but didn't make for the best album listen. Overall, I agree that Supremecy is the strongest of the three.

Although I loved "Tangiers"! That's a great cue.

Agreed, and "Tangiers" is definitely the standout cue on the album.

Other scores I'm gaining interest in are Ilan Eshkeri's Stardust and Brian Tyler's WAR.

I saw Stardust the other day and the score had some nice moments, but reeked of temp-tracking elsewhere and suffered from a lack of interesting action music and a defining personality. It also didn't help that I hadn't even heard of Eshkeri before.

WAR is another I became interested in recently when I realized Tyler and the London Symphony Orchestra were involved. Soundtrack.net has a link to a streaming version of the full album on their website and I've only heard the first few tracks. Honestly, they weren't too bad but sounded a little too much like John Powell's entries in the urban/orchestral action score genre.

Could not agree with you more. Those are my exact feelings after seeing the film and hearing the album (available a month early through iTunes). I'm actually writing a review for it right now for a score review/news blog that'll I'll be starting very soon.

I read your review and was surprised to hear about Ottman's involvement. I'm not too fond of his music but it would be interesting to hear what he came up with instead.

Bridge to Terabithia -- I have the official release, with only four tracks or whatever. It's nice, but doesn't really do much for me.

Harry Potter -- again, didn't interest me much.

PotC -- surprisingly, after years of duds, Zimmer comes in with one of his best scores and one of the best action scores of the year. Go figure.

The Last Legion -- Doyle on LOUD. Very much in the vein of his Harry Potter. Nothing as strong as his Eragon theme, but overall a better score.

Bourne Ultimatum -- very good action/thriller score. I thought that Powell could not be beat in this category until. . .

War -- Brian Tyler's score for War came out the next week. Holy crap. Not perfect, but when he's on he's on, and here he definitely gives Powell a run for his money, on Powell's turf, no less.

The Simpsons -- another solid score from Zimmer. Yay!

Stardust -- quite good, but nothing terribly original. Sounds a lot like James Newton Howard, with a dash of Alan Silvestri and, surprisingly, some stuff out of Kilar's Dracula score. Love "Cap'n at the Helm" though. I enjoy this one, but wasn't blown away by it.

Haven't really had time to absore Doyle's other two recent scores yes.

Really excited about the restored release of The Wind and the Lion!
