1980 BBC Documentary on the Scoring of Empire Strikes Back
Saw this posted over at Score Reviews. It's pretty interesting, and goes more in depth on the process of film scoring than any other documentary I've seen.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6

Yeah, I watched that last night. Very cool stuff.
I hadn't heard any of Williams' score for
Jane Eyre
until I watched that doc and the main theme sounds strikingly similar to "Across the Stars."

Oh yeah, I actually saw this last week. Very awesome stuff, and as a young composer, I found it very inspirational.

only finished part 2 now, but that bit about the Carbon Freeze love scene is hilarious really
the thing falls completely flat without the music
"I love you"
"I know"
...
okay, who cares, let's just freeze him and be done with it
we've had plenty of threads wondering how certain scenes might sound with
other
music, but important scenes
without
music? I wonder how many would work

That was wonderful! I can't believe I've never seen this before, and that it wasn't added to the DVD Trilogy release!
Johnny's reaction to his first viewing of the "I love you." / "I know." exchange is priceless, and his reaction to the LSO's [almost-brilliant] sightreading of the end of the "Mynock Cave" cue is pretty damned funny, too. "OK...OK...oh boy!"

Yeah, they definitely should include this documentary when they release the saga boxed set.
I liked his "Good sightreading!" line, too.

There's so much Star Wars stuff out there that will probably never make it to dvd. but this was awsome! Meeting John Williams would be bigger than meeting George Lucas, for me.

Absolutely agreed. I have an insurmountable amount of respect for Williams and very little for Lucas.
