I don't usually post in here, but...

It's John.Frakking.Williams. Even a crappy John Williams score is on a whole other level when compared to most other film scores.

Actually now that I think about it, is it even POSSIBLE for John Williams to produce a crappy piece of music?

Williams style has changed a lot since he composed The Last Crusade. Although completely different from the originals, his score for ROTS was excellent so I hope we can get something along those lines.

John Williams wont dissapoint me, he never has tongue

As to how it will compare to the other scores? i dunno, but i'm gonna say as good as the previous 3 or better!... in this poll? i went with better than TOD and LC but not better than Raiders (u made me choose!)

In her best Han Solo voice "let's keep a little optimism here!" cool

Conrad Pope, one of Williams's orchestrators, has mentioned that this score "is written in the exact same style as the previous Indys," noting that it is "cartoonish" and full of "woodwind runs."

I'm just hoping that Williams goes back to the spirit of "Raiders" and remember the awesome music that he wrote for it and try to infuse KotCS with it.
Indy might be older, but great film music is timeless....

I expect one of two things from the new Indy score:

(1) It endlessly rips off old themes and motifs, recycling and reusing cues to a nauseating degree (and then trying to play it all off as an "homage").
(2) It sounds distinctly different from anything we've heard in the previous three Indy scores, similar to the way in which TPM's score was great, yet it sounded distinctly different from the previous three Star Wars scores.

What I do NOT expect is a third option: (3) The score fulfills my every wildest dream as it manages to sound completely similar in style and tone to the original Indy films, yet manages to be wholly original and showers us with one exciting new theme and cue after another.

And just remember, guys: Nostalgia can make you overlook the flaws in the scores of the original Indy films. They certainly weren't perfect either. They certainly had a sprinkling of "dud" cues. I know that there are certain tracks from the Raiders and The Last Crusade soundtracks that I very rarely listen to because they simple aren't that interesting.

Personally, I expect option (2). If Willams' approach to the new Indy score gives us anything remotely on the level of the TPM score, I will be very, very happy. I think it is often overlooked that while many Star Wars fans disliked TPM, nearly everyone loved its score. That gives me confidence about the soundtrack for Crystal Skull.

I agree that a TPM/prequel approach is more likely. Look at how he passed up some really big openings for the Imperial March in ROTS.

Good to see you in here Kev. happy

I disagree on this point here, at least in Raiders' case. I listened to it the other day in its entirety and wasn't bored once. The entire score is perfect IMHO. And that's not nostalgia talking, considering I hadn't listened to it for at least a year.

Last Crusade
had a great score, but Williams was definitely on autopilot for a few cues here and there.

As for Crystal Skull, I really hope we get something along the lines of TPM as well, a score that harkens back while at the same time offers something new.

I get bored with the Raiders score in a few places. I listen to Last Crusade far more.

Absolutely! TPM is one of the greatest sequel scores ever, and if KotCS takes a cue from it, I'll be happy.

I also find Raiders to be the strongest score. Never a dull moment. Admittedly, some of the unreleased cues aren't extraordinary (though "Government Agents" is incredible!), but they serve as perfect functional music for their scenes. That's the thing about a musical work: you can't expect a constant high. There must be ups and downs. Without the downs, you can't appreciate the ups.

Temple of Doom is a fun, if somewhat thoughtless score (one of the best "constant high" scores) and Last Crusade has plenty of great moments, but I agree that it is on autopilot.

KotCS to feature a Continuum Fingerboard:

Sounds like in songs though, not in the score.

I think the article mixes up some terminology. Randy Kerber works for Williams as an orchestrator and keyboardist (although he is also a composer). It seems like the article is simply noting the presence of the Continuum Keyboard in Williams's score and the fact that Kerber will be performing on it. I suppose it is possible that Kerber has in fact composed music for the score, but if so it is very likely only source music. Williams rarely writes his own diagetic music anymore. (When was the last time? Superman?)
