RE: Defenders of the A&P Love Story Reloaded (Part 3)
Oh, and what's all this I hear about "Access Hollywood" being the first to premiere even a quick look, whatever sort it might be, at the ROTS trailer next month....sooner than we think, indeed....why, the very notion in and of itself is enough to make me totally, happily geek out.
Less than *seven* mere months to go now, can you believe it? I remember when we were marking the full one-year timeframe....now we've less than seven months to go....and when you consider the glorious fact that a month is made up of basically just thirty days, give or take, and each day is made up of only twenty-four hours....and what's in an hour, really, but just sixty minutes....and one lonely minute is nothing more than sixty mere seconds....and suddenly, yeah, taking all that into happy, triumphant consideration - seven months really starts to seem like a pretty insignificant timeframe after all....and I can think of few things so delightful or encouraging as that entirely heartening fact.
Still do think we're likely to see the trailer airing on the regular news, though....very, *very* good chance of it....h'm, h'm, I wonder if we can lobby our local stations extra-hard for that, when it does finally come out?

And I of course *entirely*, fiercely, passionately, wholeheartedly agree and wholly sympathize, anidan - aye, if "Higher Ground" *doesn't* come out on DVD sooner rather than later, I might very well pop a blood vessel....or, you know....else do something equally drastic.
Honestly, with so many TV shows coming to DVD right, left, centre and sideways - what the heck are they waiting for with "Higher Ground"?! It's insane to put us through this....insane, I tell you....is there anyone we can complain/lobby to? There's still so much HG that I've missed....wah.... *cuddles poor, angsty, cute, entirely adorable and irresistible Scott*

RE: Defenders of the A&P Love Story Reloaded (Part 3)
Well, I haven't posted at the JC in well nigh a year - and I've made a couple of attempts at being an actively posting Defender which both fizzled out when I grew disenchanted with the JC. But in the past weeks I've become an avid lurker here again, and I finally decided, heck, it's a new thread - if I've got the time to lurk regularly, I've got the time to post, right?
P/A has always been my OTP, and there are all too few places out there to gush and squee over them. I do see a couple of you outside here (*waves at
MissPadme
and
anakin_girl
*) but it'd be nice to become a part of this group again.
So... got room for another devoted P/A-er?
The current topic of discussion is Hayden, I see. Like
MissPadme
, the only reason I checked into Higher Ground or LAAH was to scope him out as an actor - almost immediately I knew they'd done well. He was the main thing that made HG worth watching at all, and of course he was great in LAAH. To this day it baffles me how people can see him in LAAH and rave about how incredible his performance is there, yet many of these same people can completely dismiss his performance in AotC. Yes, I do think his LAAH performance edges out AotC's, but not by
that
dramatic a margin, especially considering all the different past performances he had to take into account when playing Anakin at the time period he was. I'm completely happy with how he handled the role. Someone earlier mentioned his ability to go from playful to intense in an instant; that's a huge part of his appeal to me - every emotion he portrays, you
feel
it. (I'll admit that outside his role as Anakin, I don't find him quite as attractive - I like a guy who's not as pale as I am, thanks.
) The eyes are probably the biggest part - I lost count of how many times he either made me turn into a puddle of goo and/or shrink away from the screen just by
looking
. I generally care little about any actors outside their characters, but I admit there is something special about him.

A new home and all cozy too!
I too admit that the main reason I checked out LAAH was because of Hayden.
And you know what? I was blown away at his performance. Sure, I could see Anakin in Sam’s eyes (the temperament similarities) but Hayden did an outstanding job in that movie. Had I never heard of him before I would have still been impressed.

Woo! Shiny new thread!!
Hayden in "Higher Ground"... too funny. I know it's not supposed to be, but Scott cries every episode.
Aww... Hayden's such a sport (and a damn good crier).
I do hope it comes out on DVD though... a small market, but a dedicated one.

Aaaaaaahhh, it's confirmed, apparently....the trailer *will* be with "The Incredibles" (though really, we'd pretty much already known it....guess we were just waiting on the official word, though, right?) - and now I fear that I'll have to give this one some serious mulling-over....what to do, what to do....ergh, it reminds me of going to see "Ice Age" and well-suspecting going in that they'd have an AOTC trailer in front of it - so when I realized at one point, from the barest, most fleetingly instantaneous split-second of the start of the trailer (even just the first logos, for pity's sake!) just what was going on....I immediately clamped tight-shut my eyes, already had my Discman goin' and the headphones in my ears, and I promptly turned the music up, kept my eyes shut....and couldn't watch nor hear a second of all the tantalizing action. So, you know....clearly I'd have practice, then, if I were to resort to anything like that again, this time around.
*thoughtful* What to do, what to do....
And, RebelScum - hey, the poor kid really had a lot to be angsty and even crying over (not "every" episode, mind you
- but still....) - after all, he was pretty seriously damaged there....and yet - still just *so* immensely cuddle-able and appealing....and, really....don't you just want to hug and soothe him and take away all the pain....the poor dear....
*Scott love*
Dawn.

Yup, just saw it on the official site...Hyperspace members will get first crack at it the afternoon of November 4. They didn't say afternoon in which time zone though
. Then it will debut on t.v. the evening of the 4th, presumably on
Access Hollywood
as rumored. Then it will debut in (select) theaters with
The Incredibles
on November 5.

I was participating at the AOTC Chapter discussion and Darth Marky Mark mentioned that Anakin and Padme getting married quickly, could be GL's way of showing how during the World Wars, how couples got married before their spouse goes off to war.
I didn't think of that, and I found it very perceptive. What you say?
...and can't wait for the Trailer. Should be in the net very soon after that

Nice to see we've got a brand new thread and didn't even skip a beat. Just goes to show that this group is like the Energizer bunny...
My opinion of Hayden is that he is a fine actor. He has a dramatic quality that some just don't like, but I think it has worked well for him in his roles to date. Many give him a hard time for his AOTC portrayal, but just watch AOTC and try to recite those lines yourself. Put yourself in the fireplace scene and recite his lines and you'll discover that he did a pretty good job with the lines he was given. That and the fact that he had to bridge the voice mannerisms of both Jake Lloyd and JEJ, I'd say he had a difficult character to portray. I've found that for some reason British actors can get away with lines like "Join me and together we will destroy the Sith!" But give that line to an American or Canadian actor, and it just... loses something. So, all in all I think the kid is doing a pretty good job with his movie choices to date, and considering that he's only 23, I'd have to say I'm impressed.
And I can't help but smile at all the *Scott Love* going around

Oh, yes...ALWAYS room for more!!
Especially in our new little place!!!
Whoo-hooo!!
Hello friends!
I would have to say, also, that I really loved HC in LAAH!! He did a fantastic job!! Really stirred my emotions...i.e. the scene where Sam's parents are dancing and he is looking in on them...that face!!! There is sooo much happening there (to quote Robin Gurland
) The longing, the sadness, the joy, the heartache, the little boy inside...it's all there in one face!!

Meanwhile, Palpatine knows all about family friendly politics. Just look at him celebrating Christmas with the Skywalker family.
"Christmas"....hahahahha!!! I now look at the scene in a totally new "light" !!
Hey
openmind
...that is a really good point that you bring up about couples getting married before the one goes off to war. I, too, have never thought of it that way.
And, I hate to admit it, but I have only seen little clips here and there of
Higher Ground
...I'm not really sure where to find the re-runs. I didn't know about it until after the series was over...
*looks at everyone with a longing sigh*

Hey, I haven't seen the whole series yet meself either....
Still missin' out on quite a few eppies, unfortunately....thought I'd finally have the chance tosee the whole show, right from the start, when a local station here aired "Scott Free", the first eppy, right out of the blue one Sunday evening....problem is, though, that I can't find hide nor hair of the show on *any* local listings anywhere now, and it seems that the station that was airing it before now has just totally yanked it off, *most* unceremoniously....and after they teased me thusly with just the first episode - well, suffice it to say, I'm rather ticked off about the whole thing. Also contemplating some sort of drastic action against the network as well.... (wonder if they've been trained to deal with a viewer as irate as I am?)
I will *not* be denied my Hayden....grrr, argh....
*is having luscious Sam and Scott thoughts tonight....thank you so much for that!*
Dawn.

Page 2 already? Sheesh! Not that that's bad - I'm glad we P/A fans don't have a shortage of things to talk about.
Oh, yes...ALWAYS room for more!!
Thanks,

.
(Great name, by the way.)
Many give him a hard time for his AOTC portrayal, but just watch AOTC and try to recite those lines yourself. Put yourself in the fireplace scene and recite his lines and you'll discover that he did a pretty good job with the lines he was given.
I agree.
Honestly, when I read his monologue for that scene in the novel, I was absolutely
dreading
that part of the movie. Like Hayden, I was thinking "oh, no WAY is that going to work!" But even on first viewing, where my reactions to the movie were still mixed, I was pleasantly surprised by how he pulled off the dialogue there. (I would still have cut off the monologue before he got to the point about being haunted by the kiss and it being a scar, but in the end you can still technically chalk it up to the poor boy having
zero
experience with women.
) HC made it work better than almost anyone else would have in that scene, I think. You could tell he was trying his best with those lines.
Whenever my sister and I watch LAAH, without fault my sister always immediately skips to the scene where Sam's dad tells him he has cancer - because Hayden's just so
amazing
there. We both just sit there and don't say a word, and are always wowed by it. I still think I get more of an emotional response from his scenes in AotC (the look he has in his eyes right after his mother dies, and then the scene where he confesses the massacre to Padme - those give me the chills almost more than anything else in these films), but that's probably because I'm simply more invested in SW.

I actually like what Anakin says to Padme in that scene...I mean, I know, it's mushy and cheesy, but I just love romantic stuff ...normally not so mushy and cheesy, but it's between our fav. couple and well, it's Hayden saying it...so that makes it good stuff, IMO
