RE: Official General Grievous Fanclub
Not to sound too pessimistic, but not much really, we discussed how Kaleesh would make their mumuu masks and some people proposed a San Hill/Grievous ship and that's pretty much it..
Sorry to hear that, fingers.
Is it because your IP won't let on the site? I've never heard of a brand of PC not recognizing sites, usually it's IPs with like parental blockers or something...

RE: Official General Grievous Fanclub
Grievous has asked that this be bumped to the first page...asked, you say? Nah, more like he chased me down, lightsabers drawn at my head, threatening to split me into dismembered limbs and crush my skull if I didn't do so.
I have a new question for everyone...why do you think the Kaleesh bandaged/wrapped themselves...was it for protection from the sun? From insects? Some sort of tradition? What do you think?

RE: Official General Grievous Fanclub
I think that the reason that the Kaleesh wrapped their limbs is because the originating artist who came up with that was still waffling with himself about what their skin texture should look like and went with covering it up to leave that aspect of their appearance open. There also may have been a deliberate attempt to get a bit of that Tusken Raider look in there to encourage the idea that the Kaleesh were similarly 'desert' people, complete with all the built-in stereotypes that entails, so as to impart more background to the species without actually providing any background...he knew the viewer would make certain assumptions. Yeah, I know I'm being cynical, but I suspect that this truly is the reason they dress that way! Personally, I think wearing wrappings or bandages are a very odd let alone illogical choice for anyone engaged in doing something really athletic. It's hard enough to keep the modern elasticized ones in place, let alone plain ones, and I do like to think of my Kaleesh as logical as well as rather active, energetic sorts...
Aside, with smiles: I found the most beautiful portrait of a new-look Huk, the brown variant our cyborg boy was used to fighting way back when. The photographer, Andrew Williams, agreed to provide a link to share his unexpected prize (and he thought he was just photographing a mantid!) and even helpfully added Yam'rii/Huk tags to his picture. So here he/she is, the prettiest Huk you'll ever likely see! (If only they really looked like this...

That's interesting, Biddybot, yet they show a priest there that has his arms exposed, so it might be something else, I don't know about the Tusken Raider thing, I know that some other species dress and look similiar so that might be it, but I always thought there was another reason, as like a sort of protection from their native insects and they keep their joints uncovered I think because they can maintain their range of motion...oh well, just my opinions...
And that pic is cool, it was taken in York, PA...I only live like 20 miles away from there!

RE: Official General Grievous Fanclub
Hi there. Sorry I've been absent, I'm in China visiting relatives and I'm typing from my aunt's house (the computer is rather slow).
I noticed the "Ontario Song" by Arrogant Worms can easily apply to China.
"The rent's too high,
The air's unclean (too many smokers >:(, Grievous wouldn't like that)
The beaches are dirty (yeah it's dirty)
And the people are mean (cars first, not people first when crossing the street)"
"The children are loopy cause they live in a slum.
The water's polluted (that's probably why people drink bottled water)
The mayor's a dork (well I don't know about that)
They dress real bad (tacky clothes sometimes)
And they think they're New York"
My least favorite part is all the smoking.
As for the bandages, eh I suppose there was this chick from Rurouni Kenshin who wore them like Grievous under her clothes. I do think they'd be very uncomfortable.
I went to a park with a balloon shooting game. Grievous would be good at that. I think Qymaen and Ronderu are more like Luke and Leia than Anakin and Padme.

Hey kecen!
Luke and Leia? You mean like the incestous part when they kiss? Well, maybe they are closer like brother and sister than like Anakin and Padme and I think the bandages would be uncomfortable too, but I think the Kaleesh are used to being uncomfortable living through wars and famine..

RE: Official General Grievous Fanclub
Hey Grievous fans!
Well, tomorrow I start class again.
So, before I face my new foes, Darth English and Darth Psychology, I thought I would say hi to GG.
And I'm going to try to get updates posted for BFK and my other fic.
So, what's happening?
Hmmm....that's just how I imagined the Huk would look. Like a Mantis type. Although, I sort of thought them to be green like the praying mantis.
But I'm sure the brown type fits more with what little we know of the Yam'rii.
As far as the wrappings, I think the Kaleesh did that to protect themselves from the sun and harsh Kaleesh climate. Though insects could also be a factor considering their enemy was the insect-like Huk.
Plus one would imagine the Kaleesh to be used to their own climate. Perhaps the wraps were as much for fashion as they were for pratical use.
Hmmm...seeing the mantid/Huk just gave me an idea for the RPF.
Grievous is the man....ummm....the Kaleesh Cyborg.
Well it doesn't matter what he is.
He's cool!

Gods, summer's almost over already, it seems like it just started!

RE: Official General Grievous Fanclub
Wow, I go away for a couple days and all the cool discussion is going on!
I've often wondered about the kaleesh 'wrap up'myself. I do think there is a sort of Star Wars artistic continuity thing going on. A LOT of aliens and even humans in the SW verse sport these wrappings. I was looking through an old guide to aliens and creatures book, and I could count at least 15 races with bandage looking things around their arms! In the CW cartoon there is a nikto (fighting arena scene) that looks so much like a kaleesh, I thought for a long time he was one.
Grievous does sort of have the tusken raider thing going on. The front of his Czerka rifle (in the Warren Fu rendition) looks a lot like a gaffi stick, and the bandages...uh, yep. Not that I'm complaining, I happen to like the tuskens, and out of the millions of races in the galaxy, some are bound to sport similar dress.
I have two ideas as to why the kaleesh wear these when fighting. (and only when fighting, I don't see the average man woman and child walking down the street in this getup.)
One is simply for support of sore muscles and swollen tendons, like when athletes and athletic horses are bandaged. The other is that in the hot climates of Kalee and possibly huk homeworlds, there is a danger of moisture loss through the skin surface. Sweating in other words. The wrappings would keep the precious moisture close to their bodies. Before you all yell "but they are reptiles!".... I know, I know,... but they are reptilian 'aliens', there is the possibility that they could have some sweat glands located on certain parts of their bodies.
I love the picture of the mantis/ huk! That beautiful mug had me yelling at the computer screen. "Die soulless bug, DIE!!
I'm such a nerd!

Yeah, I saw a dead praying mantis the other day and cheered that it was dead like it was a dead Huk soldier...yes, hopeless, I know!
Yeah, I knid of figured that, like the wrappings around their ankles, as like support for their legs because they go barefoot wherever they go or in some cases, they could actually be bandages for wounds, it seems that as they see a lot of warfare that they get wounded a lot, but I don't think that was the case with Grievous...ah heck, maybe they were dressing up as mummies for Halloween!

RE: Official General Grievous Fanclub
Hey ever-body! I'm finally back! But Grievous got mad at me for being gone so long and now I need some new limbs.
I start sophomore year tomorrow, and...
I DON'T WANNA GO TO SCHOOL!!! WAAAAAAAAA!
But my sister gave me an awesome Grievous Pez dispenser. It's quite fun eating hard candy from the general's neck. I hope he doesn't mind.
Don't split in half again Grievous! I'm still recovering from last time!
