	Hi! I've been a lurker for a while... I would absolutely love to join this group! I am a very big fan of Padme and I really admire her. Anyway, I might as well put a little input of mine in my first post. Many people have argued about the fact that Padme just "gives up" at the end of Revenge of the Sith. It really bothered me that people could judge her so harshly and even consider her selfish. First of all it wasn't suicide, it's not like she decided to shoot herself or something. I think that she was just so distraught and so heartbroken that her body couldn't handle the physical pain she had gone (being choked and giving birth to twins at the same time doesn't seem like such fun). I mean could you actually see Padme just dropping dead if she wasn't injured physicaly as well? If Anakin was still with her and hadn't turned to the darkside I am sure she would have survived but that does not mean that she just chose to die and leave her children in such a dark world! I think that the only things Lucas intended to tell us by this way of death was that a)it wasn't Anakin who actually killed her and the monster Sideous was just trying to erase all humanity left in Anakin and b) the tragedy was so great that even such a strong person like Padme couldn't handle it. 	Great post, padmemily. There's a thread on the ROTS board where there were people saying Padmé was a lousy role model for girls. Here are some great responses: From Darth_Gorman: I want to know who died and made you all the critics with the final say. I don't recall reading any reviews that said Padme was a failure at being a girl's role model. I think you should look a person's full body of work to deliver final judgment on them. She saved her people at age 14, she tried valiantly to save the galaxy she loved, she was still fighting to save the Republic even after it was clear to everyone that it was doomed. She did all of this as a teenager and 20-year old. Also, you can't call it a fatal flaw that she fell in love with Anakin, because everyone falls in love during their lives and by the end of AOTC this seemed genuine. She was just unfortunate that she lived during the time of the most evil being ever, Emperor Palpatine, because he corrupted Anakin. If it hadn't been for Palpatine, Anakin would have become a great Jedi. Padme was a wonderful role model for girls because she showed that inner strength can help you persevere. Now I know everyone else is all like "What about her just giving up." but her heart was ripped out and stepped on by the love of her life, her whole body of work was destroyed, and she dealt with these emotional events while going through an emotional pregnancy. And if George says so then you can die of broken heart. I believe Padme lost the will to live because it seemed as though her soul was torn apart by Anakin...and as Dex would say "Droids can't tell the difference between knowledge and wisdom." Padme knew what she was doing, Anakin would've found her and the children would've become property of Palpatine. So it was Padme who ultimately saved the galaxy. A perfect role model for girls. She made the ultimate sacrifice. And from DarthOthello: Maybe witnessing the love of her life transform into a malevolent brute, hellbent on the destruction of an institution she fought to construct, drove her over the edge? Maybe she was just tired of fighting? Afterall, she gave her best fight and look what happened? Palpatine won out and turned the Republic into a dictatorship. As someone said, Padme WAS The galactic Republic. She represented and embodied everything it stood for: beauty, grace, tolerance, democracy and all that other good stuff. I think Padme was a metaphor for The Republic myself. 	Thanks for the welcome I think that beside being so heartbroken by Anakin's turn, she must have felt so much guilt! I mean she probably does know why Anakin turns ("I'm doing it for you"... and she knows Anakin very well...) so she must feel like she is to blame for everything! She also inadvertantly put the evil Sideous to power so she must think that the fall of the republic and the fall of her husband are all her fault! Maybe that's why she doesn't stay strong for her children. Maybe at the moment she believes that she doesn't deserve to raise Anakin's children (in her mind she ruined his life), or that she can't be a good enough mother and Obi Wan is with her so she believes that her children will always be in good hands. Just a thought... As I said I don't really think we need to read too much in to this. 	Padme's death was kinda disappointing in ROTS (I think it's out of her character to "lost the will to live"), but other than that I like Padme very much. She's a caring and compassionate person, too pure/virtuous for her own good. The most touching thing about her is: even though Anakin hurt her so badly, she still forgave him and believed "there's good in him".
