	Indeed she is beautiful and cool. I suppose that if some see Padme's death as a very incongruous flaw in an otherwise 'perfect' heroine, then perhaps the message is that not even real heroes are perfect - that they may in fact greatly disappoint their fans' expectations in a given situation just by being themselves in that situation - showing those parts of themselves that we don't know about. Up until Padme's death - by a machine's interpretation as the 'loss of the will to live' - can we say we know everything about Padme Naberrie - such that we can predict how she should act all the time? I know we can only go by what we've been shown about her on-screen - this strong queen and principled politician, but what about her off-screen inner life - her conflicts, fears, wishes - that we haven't seen and that might have given some of the more disappointed among us a warning that, yes, Padme could very well die the way she did at that point in her life - in grief and sadness, not with a blaster in hand. -----signature----- "There is no other way....He was meant to help you. 	And it doesn't make her any less a real heroine to have those same hopes, fears, wishes, doubts and concerns....all those very innately human, feelings things....in fact, in my book, it only makes her even more a true heroine! Because it means that in her, we can see ourselves as well....and that she's a role model, certainly, but that she's also like us. And it also only goes to show even more clearly that her great strength, the streak of granite determination and courage in her soul, was as much from her compassion, her sensitivity to the plight of others - her good and caring, loving, vulnerable heart, as much as it stemmed from her devotion to those powerful, higher ideals of the Republic, of peace and democracy. Remember, even the strongest, most fierce and stalwart of warriors will, by nature of humanity, have their breaking point....but it does not, nor will it ever, make them any less a fierce and valiant, brave warrior. 	And far as I'm concerned, that can only be counted a good thing. Quite the compliment, actually.... After all, Padme is an intrinsic and essential part of that same Love Story; it's an inextricable part of her tale, and of her destiny, as much as is her warrior-queen heart, her bravery, forthrightness, compassion, understanding and generosity. 	I read in the current issue of Starlog an interview with Papa George and he describes SW as a metaphor and that not everything ought to be taken literally. I have come to view Padmé's death the same way. People have speculated for years on her death and yes, even "dying of a broken heart" was a common theory. I didn't buy it because it didn't seem like a Padmé way to die. Even so, when I first saw ROTS, I was upset at Padmé for not sticking around for her kids. But with time, further discussion, and multiple viewings, Padmé's death is really a metaphor for the death of the Republic, the fading of a feminine energy that seemed to inform that society pre-Empire, even the death or hibernation if you will of a part of Anakin himself. She is inextricably tied to her world, her society, and to Anakin. When it all falls apart, she can't survive (I also think there was no way Uncle Obi and Grandpa Yoda were going to let her keep those kids with Papa Sith running around). So of course, if Palpy thought for a second that there were two more incredibly, staggeringly Force-sensitive children out there - the phenomenally gifted children of the Chosen One - he, too, would have been eager to twist them to the ways of the Sith. Having that particularly malignant, evil presence lurking out there would mean that Padme would've never been safe with the children....Palpy wouldn't have rested until he found her, and them. So they very likely would've been torn from her embrace soon enough, and she might have never been able to see them again....not with such evil lurking close in the galaxy....and I can't imagine anything that would break her heart so much, in those circumstances, something that would rob anyone of the will to live....to be forcibly separated from one's own children like that, knowing that you can never raise and love them yourself, because it would simply be too dangerous for all of you.... shakes head What a dreadful fate that would've been - and I think it quite likely still would've ended up killing her. 	it's distressing to see padme cited as unworthy as a role model, etc. - actually i think her seemingly "chosen" death is a reflection of two different catalysts: i agree that padme has a huge amount of guilt in the loss of anakin to the dark side - he has told her he's doing it all for her (and we know that's not the entire truth)but it's here, on mustafar that she finally realizes how far gone anakin really is - she missed all those cues, as everyone else did. when he told her he was "lost" it was a true cry for help. IMO padme is remembering all of this when she's on polis masa - and in the naboo skiff on the way to mustafar she's been thinking and regreting and hoping. when that hope is rejected so is she. but she can save her children. she makes the sacrifice to keep them hidden from the new empire and the sith... she makes the ultimate sacifice. so .. i refute those who say padme is no role model. she is flawed as everyone and every character is but she admirable, heroic and noble. -----signature----- The world will never have lasting peace so long as men reserve for war the finest human qualities. 	Well said lovelucas. Some Padme haters are trying desperately to bring her down. They have no problem with Luke's love and compassion for Vader, yet they call Padme "stupid, selfish" because she loved Anakin? I smell double standard... Some people keep saying Padme should have abandoned Anakin after her converation with Obi-wan ; I say THAT is the real stupidity and selfishness. Imagine what would happen if Luke gave up on Vader? Without love, compassion and forgiveness, Star Wars would lost all of its meanings. -----signature----- PT reminds me how short the distance is between goodness and evil, between love and hatred, between loyalty and betrayal. 	describe padmé how you see her in 5 words i find her: beautiful (don't have to explain that), cool (she fights realy well), smart (she does almost always the right thing) , a strong character (never gives up, besides her death ) , she's very talented and a great leader (at the age of 14 queen, she loved her people and served very well, after that she became a senator) -----signature----- do what must be done Lord Vader, do not hesitate, show no mercy love Padmé love Maria Sharapova
