Okay, I just went back to re-read some posts I didn't get a chance to respond to. I missed some real goodies.

MissPadme's latest Saga entry about Padme answers in a major way the last question I put to the thread such that I don't have much to add myself! It is well-written, thought-provoking and I was moved by it and by our amazing Padme Naberrie.

Guess I'll address the surface topic of her clothing again and end up repeating what other wise Padmeans have already said! hugs As Queen Amidala her clothing is austere and forbidding to me for the most part although very colorful and intricate - accept when she's in disguise as a handmaiden. Her royal clothes seem to hide who she is as a person in order to emphasize her 'job' and her duties. As senator she can let more of Padme Naberrie show and since she's more or less being courted by Anakin Skywalker she wears 'courtship clothes' (specifically on the Naboo Lake Retreat garden terrace and in the fireplace alcove) that express visually her interest in Anakin which she doesn't think right to express verbally. In the RotS she has long flowing costumes which look to me like a sense of relaxation or a slower pace of living. She's not 'on the move' the way she was before because now she has a secret marriage to protect and an unborn child to consider. She's still an active senator but her job is no longer her first priority. Most of her words in this last and great film concern her growing family, Anakin and the baby(-ies).

Qui-Dawn posted:
, I think, just what a tremendous impact she *did* have on everyone -...And her presence, the strength, courage, warmth, compassion and light of her being - ...affected *everyone* who knew her....be it only by name or reputation, or those who worked with her directly and personally....*everyone* seemed to respect her, to love and respond to her....to the innately, purely *good* person that she was, inside, and she radiated that like a sustaining, nurturing, life-giving flame.

DARTHCLANDESTINE posted:

Another things about Padme Amidala. She has never been afraid to die. "My fate, will be no different then from my people", "Im not afraid to die", "and the baby?", "Im going to help Obi Wan" (really, she could have been killed trying this sort of thing).

To all who understood Padme and what she stood for here's a hugs

It's seems that the highest form of 'goodness' in a person exists when that person is willing to give up her life for the welfare of others. We can point to other SW characters and find this quality. And I think this is a part of the Jedi code. (Right?) I like the fact that Padme is not one of the special sentients called Jedi. She's a 'regular' person giving so much of herself, a person untrained to delve for assistence more deeply into the Force that surrrounds everything. There's something extra special about that!

I can't wait until New Years Eve! Not for the strawberry shortcake I usually eat (but of course I will eat it or something equally scrumptious again). Not for the Korbel sparkling wine (of course I will drink it again a-plenty!) But for my new tradition of watching all the Star Wars films! And this year the circle will be complete!! Whooo-hoooooo!! Can you believe I've got months to go and I'm this excited? grin

Anapad, you are far from the first person I've encountered who watches all of the SW movies on New Year's Eve.

And now that you mention it, both of you - actually, I can't imagine why I've never done such a thing before....seems like a perfectly lovely tradition to start, though, so I guess that's what I'll be doing this New Year's....either with friends or all by my lonesome....the whole entire Saga, I to VI, viewing it precisely as now intended, as it now makes the most sense....sounds like all sorts of fun, and I am just *so* there! grin What a Naboo Faboo idea....

Oooh! Haven't been here in so long! doh! Must catch up.

Padme in 5 words: Ambitious. Beautiful. Brilliant. Compassionate. Brave.

Favorite costume: My absolute favorite is the yellow picnic gown. Second favorite is the dark red one from the attack scene in TPM.

And as for watching all the films on New Year's Eve--what a great idea! I need to remember that.

I had been waiting to meet Padme for years when we first saw her in '99. When I would watch the original trilogy on VHS end-to-end on days sick at home, I could feel the spirit of "Mother" (we didn't know her name then) in Return of the Jedi, even if no one could literally see her: in the Emperor's throne room I felt her ache when her son (Luke) attacked the father (Vader), in the hangar when Luke sees his father's face for the first time I felt her looking over Luke's shoulder patiently smiling and waiting to greet Anakin when he crosses over, and in the celebration on Endor I felt that perhaps something in Anakin's (Sebastian Shaw back then) momentarily delayed arrival and smile was due to "seeing" her again.

I'm one of these ladies who, upon hearing the casting rumors in the late '90's that they were looking for someone "young with the potential to blossom into an exotic beauty" to portray L&L's mother, said to myself, "Phooey!" Turns out Portman is less than 4 years younger than me, so there could have been hope! Haha. wink

Aha, so Anakin was getting himself some posthumous nookie! That's why he was smiling like that...mystery solved grin !

Seriously, that was a fantastic post. I wondered for years myself who was the mysterious mother of Luke and Leia. That was one of the aspects I looked the most forward to seeing in the prequels.

Lolkje, that is simply a *wonderful* notion....as MissPadme says, the idea of some posthumous nookie for Anakin....*so* sweet....oh, how I adore it! happy Of course she'd be the first one he'd seek out, upon being one-with-the-Force-ified....of *course* he'd be needing some o' that love and reassurance and general pure peace, now that they can actually enjoy their eternal love, without end, with no fear of anything ever coming between them again....because even death itself couldn't separate them anymore, and once they were back together in the life after, well - I can very much see that being how and where Anakin would spend a lot of his time....when he's not being a blue ghostie, that is. happy Undoubtedly a lot of catching up to do, *so* much making up for lost time, I'd wager....even when one is, well, one with the Force. I'm thinking that could make the nookie even better, actually.... wink

Such a lovely thought all the same, though....especially because of what it says about what might have been behind that smile he gave Luke....that beautiful, purely loving smile....for undoubtedly now, it's Padme who's all the reason in the world for that smile - well, her, yes....and watching the children they created together in love. What a pure and perfect state of grace.... happy

That article was fantastic, MissPadme. I thought I was the only one who noticed the ROTS - Othello similarities. You can really match up all the characters, not just padme and anakin. You can see Obi-Wan as Cassio and Palpatine as Iago as well.

PS - a question for all the avid padme/anakin romantics. After they get married, does Anakin have to go back to the jedi temple right away? And if so, do they ever really get an extended amount of time together during their marraige? If so... where and when?

Sigh. Did you ladies have to come right out and joke about Anakin getting posthumous nookie? That's not how I meant it at all.

Early or late to the party, what matters most is that you're here....in fact, that we're *all* here in general, celebrating and admiring and appreciating one heckuva strong, beautiful, noble, valiant, fierce, brave, compassionate, true and tender gal....a woman who really ultimately affected the entire galaxy, and who helped and changed *so* many lives....and *so* much for the better! I just truly, deeply like to believe that however tragically short her time was....at least she was able to experience some true, personal happiness in it, to be able to experience the most fulfilling love imaginable....and, of course, in even so short a time - she was able to do *so* much for so many....and over and over again, she proved that she truly was a force to be reckoned with....with indomitable will and unshakeable strength, courage, sincerity and compassion in her own right. A hero in every way, she is, I do believe.... grin

Lolkje, I was being facetious wink . I know it's not at all what you meant. Please don't be scared off by my warped sense of humor silly .

ChellyD77, I've heard the comparisons between ROTS and Othello more than once. Thankfully, Lucas for the most part dropped the idea of Anakin believing Obi-Wan was involved with Padmé; even twisted by the Dark Side, Anakin would know his old friend would never do such a thing, if for no other reason than the fact Obi-Wan is ultra-devoted to the Jedi and its ideals. The way it turned out in the movie was just fine; I found it believable that Anakin would think Padmé was trying to trap him and that was enough to make him believe she'd betrayed him sad cry .

As for the amount of time Anakin got to spend with Padmé, it wasn't much. They married at the beginning of the Clone Wars, meaning he didn't exactly come home at 6 every night. Plus there was that whole problem of defying the Code. But at least they spent enough time together to make Luke and Leia love .
