I shall definently check this out... I loved Whale Rider! Oh, you know what I realized was really similar to handmaidens? This anime called Mai Otome... basically there's a school that trains girls to fight as bodyguards along queens, princesses, presidents, etc. They go further, and give the girls magic powers, only to be unleased by their "Masters", or the person they bodyguard. Usually, the girls wear this maid uniform and help the serving, cleaning, etc, and are supposed to act like shadows (although some don't, for comical relief) but come crises, they run and fight like no other. It's kinda cutsy, but they definently go further into the not-just-decoration-ness of handmaidens.

Erm... so. Question... hmmm... why do you guys think GL (or anyone for that matter) has left the handmaidens so untouched in "canon" fiction and marketing? I mean, they have a fan base (us) that's proven to be resiliant and mildly (highly) obsessed. I mean, I haven't read a whole lot of profic lately, but it seems that they're pretty much going for the Jedi and super-old Luke/Leia/Han and their spawn. I like to think it's fate and that I'll take over marketing and run a whole brand/series of Handmaiden stuff through Lucasfilm :-p Probably not though... what does everyone else think? *prays for conversation* ~Obischick~
