HandmaidenAnde, wow, that is all I can say. I do agree. There are some great characters, but these poor handmaidens never get any attention!
I just wanted to say you that you summed that it up wonderfully!

Wow, nice summary Ande
I shall also mention how much the coolness of aloof and mysterious young women are to add to the list. I agree, when I was seven, Leia was my role model. When the new ones came out, I worshipped Rabe. (She had a cooler accent than Sabe, who I also admired.) You read all those novels about political intrigue and what the side players do behind the scenes and you just konw the same stuff is happening with these ladies all the time.

Hey gang!
Thanks to everyone for their compliments on my handmaiden dissertation. bobill, have to agree with you about Rabé's coolness level. Loved how focused she was during the whole movie, especially the battle. As much as I love the other ladies, I think Rabé will always be my favorite.
We're slowly but surely working on updates for the site, but I had a request here. (Because we've gotten some requests through the site.) Does anyone have an Live Journal icons that focus on the handmaidens. We have a huge avatar icon gallery (that so needs to be updated), but those are way to small for LJ. Anyone? Pretty please. If you'd like to share, email the site (info@royalhandmaidensociety.org). We promise to give you credit and lots of cyber cookies.
Love and hugs all around!

What's the size specification on LJ icons?
Also, do you mind if I use the RHS piccies to make icons, w/ citations and all that good stuff? My screenhunter software sucks.

bobill,
LJ icons usually measure 100x100. And by all means use pics from the RHS gallery.

HandmaidenAnde, Hmmmmm. You make a good point. I agree. They not only defended the Queen because it was their duty, but because they wanted to. It seems you guys truly don't like Aayla all that much...
Obi Anne, Boba Fett has never been an important character to me. He's barely nothing. I hated him as a kid, and not much has changed when he's grown up.

Anakin_luver,
Actually, I don't mind Aayla too much. I think when you're favorite characters are overlooked, and other characters are hyped up over and over, it gets frustrating. Sometimes you can go overboard and it becomes too much.
For example, I found the hype surrounding A**** S*** almost comical. Find a bikini model, slap a body suit on her, have her look from left to right, and suddenly there's this iconic character in the Star Wars Universe. She's got books, magazine covers, dolls, action figures, and comic books. A column in the Star Wars Insider by the "actress"? Really, Lucasfilm? Okay. Oh by the way, could you tell us who portrayed Versé, you know the handmaiden who died for Luke and Leia's mother. No? Okay. Thanks anyway.
Minor characters are awesome when done the right way. Wedge will forever remain one of my favorite Star Wars characters. He actually did something in the films, then they built an EU backstory for him. I thought Boba Fett was so cool when I was growing up. Mysterious and deadly. (AotC ruined that for me.) General Madine (almost typed Madien!) was calm and cool under pressure. A few lines in the film, yet he helped to plan the Death Star raid. General Veers was my favorite Imperial. (Sorry, Piett!) The perfect officer. Precise and cold. Lobot and Janson are two other favorites. And I loved Panaka too!
I just feel the inclusion of A**** and Aayla is almost as if they are pandering to the "fanboy" mentality. The characters listed above did something in the films. Planned raids. Helped out Lando. Brought down an AT-AT. In lieu of Aayla, I wish they had shown the demise of say Barriss Offee or Bultar Swan for example.
I know I've gone on and on, but I do feel strongly about this. Characters like the two we mentioned make it hard to break the stereo-type of Star Wars fans: hormone driven males. I totally don't mind Slave Leia because she had already established herself as a strong character.
MTFBWY,
Andé...the passionate handmaiden

I agree with you Andé. On another note, you all probably already know about this but our Rose is not going to be a Bond girl. Actress Eva Green is. Now, we have a very pretty actress but a not so pretty Bond.
