I definitely wants to see it, it comes here next Friday I think. Since I've had quite a few archaeology lectures analyzing it, it will be really fun to watch. I just can't take it serious after what our professor told us about Grendel and his mum.

I agree, the whole characterization of Grendel's mother is pretty silly if you have read the poem. Also Beowulf stays in Denmark and fights the dragon there; not back in Geatland. And they have turned poor Hrothgar into a wimp! Though Crispin Glover and Angelina Jolie get to speak a little Anglo-Saxon (it sounded odd to me, like they were trying for proto-Norse, but OTOH I haven't heard much A-S since I left school 30 years ago and at my age both my hearing and my memory are bad, so what do I know.  )
We went to see it in a theater in Delaware which I thought was mildly cool (the Swedish colony that became the state of Delaware was founded by settlers who sailed from Göteborg (Gothenburg) the "city of the Geats" (sort of).

This is a bit OT, but I was wondering if any of you know how to get icons uploaded to the icon gallery? I think we need a lot more hm icons, and want to make some, but how on earth do you even go about qualifying to get them posted there? Err.

If you go to the communications forum (under the administration category) you have a thread dedicated to icons, with tutorials and how you get them uploaded. At the moment I think you make icons, register as an icon-maker and it's the icon-makers who vote on which icons should go up.
Also wookiepedia is having a Miss Star Wars 2007 contest and one of the candidates is Dormé, if you want to vote go here, you must be registered at the site in order to vote though.

'Sbeen a while.
I've been out of the GFFA for some time pursuing (*gassssp!!!*) other fandoms - but in such a pursuit I came across an icon on LiveJournal that inspired an AIM chat with Sache8: and the icon combined with the chat led to some items that have got to be shared.
Sache8 will eventually be creating an alternate LJ account, named after the Spanish term for 'lady-in-waiting'. Please tell me this does not come as a surprise to anyone. 
I, meanwhile, am struggling beneath the weight of an enormous, immovable plot bunny, concerning a new handmaiden. A handmaiden who is insufferably perky and cheerful and loves to repair the royal cruisers and fighters when she's not handmaiding. Her handle? Kaylée.
(Ginormous props to any who get the reference....  )

Sobifan! It's great to see you too!  I hope you are doing well.
Actually, I hope everyone is doing well and not being overcome by holiday/school/work events. I've become a first time pet owner the past few weeks. (Well, my previous roommate had a little pomeranian named Wicket, so I'm not completely hopeless.) I adopted to little kitties from a cat rescue organization. I was only going to adopt one, but they're sisters and I totally got talked into it. They're three months old and quite a handful. They little adventureous one is called Scout (after To Kill a Mockingbird). Her sister likes to stay quietly in the background and take everything in. She has therefore been named Sabé. (A handmaiden name, big surprise, I know.) I'm still adjusting, they like to wake up in the middle of the night, and the PetSmart people continue to freak me out by refering to me as the "proud parent" or "mommy". (I'm a pet owner, people!) Anyway, everyone pray I don't end up killing them because I don't have a good track record with living things. Just ask my second graders from last year about our tadpoles.

Jazzy...?! Well hey there! And Sebulba too, amongst us all . . . proof that the doors to the R.H.S. always remain open for welcoming.
So tell me, is this "Atonement" a . . . erm, . . . "chick flick"? You know? There's just not much reason to go to the cinema these days anymore, I find, what with what seems like an endless, dreary series of "destroy NYC" movies.
Speaking of overexposure for our once-humble HM-actress . . . there's this illuminated ad for perfume or diamonds or something that dominates a bus kiosk near where I work; it shows dear Keira wearing nothing but a bowler hat and an alluring smile. (HOLDING the hat, strategically, that is!)  Have you seen this?? You know, um, I-I-I wear a b-bowler hat too, um, Ms. Knightley! Fancy a drink??

I've seen some of the TV version of that ad, but only once and it took a few seconds for me to figure out it was Keira. Part of it looked like it could have been an Atonement tie-in.

Lieutenant Piett, KA...LOL! I can't say I've seen the ad or the movie (though I would like to see the movie). I've seen the book and considered checking it out. Speaking of, has anyone seen previews for the "Other Boleyn Girl" with non other than Padme/Amidala? That looks like it might be good/
