Lieutenant Piett - Atonement is not a 'chick flick.'

IMDB defines it as Drama/Romance/War. There is romance involved but the romance does not drive the story.

It is a difficult film to describe. It is not a romance in the genre of 'PS I Love You' or anything light like that (e.g. Bridget Jones).

My brother in law went to see it and he liked it. He didn't love it as much as I did. I have read the book twice and saw the film twice and will be buying the DVD.

If you want to see some superb performances by Keira, James McAvoy and several others then you should go.

In my opinion Joe Wright surpasses his 95 Pride and Prejudice.

Maybe you should watch the trailer first.

I got Marie Antoinette on DVD for Christmas, so a double HM-gift there, with both Sofia Coppola and Rose Byrne.

One thing I have thought about was that I would love to see a Christmasy HM costume, wouldn't it have been really cute to see the handmaidens in red with big hoods and white trim? Ahhh, I just want to picture a group of handmaidens having a big snowball fight in the royal gardens in Theed. grin

Hello everyone! I've never posted in here, but was referred by Lady_Eirtae. Some of you might know me from the costuming boards or I might have met you at C4. lol.

Anyway, I do have a question. Beth told me that some of you might be interested in making the Handmaiden Battle Costumes from TPM. I contacted the-rebel-agent about making resin copies of his wife's fantastic belt buckle and he said he would. The problem is the silicon mold is expensive just to do one copy, so he suggested I find others interested in the buckle to go in on a group order. He suggested I find 10 people, so far I have four.

Would any of you be interested?

I would totally be down for that... and you can put me down for three copies too! I'm going to be working on a redo of my original Battlegown, seeing as I (and my sisters) have grown since the last one I made... gulp tongue lol. Let me know (PM-wise) details and $$ and such... thanks so much!

Sebby! Good to see you again over here! I can't wait to hear all about Kaylée's adventures on Naboo!! Let me know when you start posting it... either here or LJ. tongue

Andé! Kitties! Shut up! I just got two of them in August! A calico I found outside my library when she was 8 weeks (the vet thinks she was abandoned... grrr...) named Hermione (she was found at a library... what???) and a little black kitty we got from one of John's co-workers who we named Chloe (I'm sure you can appreciate... hehe) they aren't biological sisters, but they sure act like it.) Speaking of, Chloe just plopped herself down in the middle of the floor here, and looked up at me... like she knows I'm talking about her... lolz... Congrats on the kitties anyhow! I'm sure they'll be fine in your care, and evenutally learn, like all cats do, how to do naughty things when you're not around and look innocent when you return.

Dear Piett... I don't think Atonement is going to be anything like a chick flick... my dear sister Dorme has informed me (hey that sort of rhymed... whee! go me!) that many people have ben heralding this as the new Titanic... a period drama with a love story that has a lot of action in it too. Very Epic, I think. Anyhow, it's still not out here in the boondocks of Michigan, but rest assured I am hurrying over there once it does make it's overdue arrival.

In other... handmaidenly news... I got PotC 3 on DVD for Christmas, and despite it's shortcomings, think it worth the $15 or whatever my sister paid for it, just for that amazing marriage scene at the end... *swoon*

I hope everyone had a lovely and safe and wonderful Christmas and New Years!!

~Obischick~ peace

Oh come on! Titanic was not as bad as all boys seem to think it is. I think what scared away the male population was the fact that women went insane for the movie/Leo DiCaprio, more than the movie was some terrible RomCom Chick-Flick horrifying experience.

PS Atonement is finally in theaters here... Monday I am so there...

Lt. Piett, if it is not too late, I highly recommend skipping Atonement. I took one for the team and saw it and really don't understand why it is getting all the attention from the various award-giving groups.

I know it's your home, but I'm pretty sure you'll find the "Destroy New York" movie more entertaining. At least I hope it is, because that's next on my "Must-See" list.

Why didn't you like it? I haven't seen it, so just curious.

Which one do you mean, "Atonement" or "Cloverfield" because it turns out that I wasn't thrilled with either one. sad

When does the new Indiana Jones movie come out again? Not too soon, I'm sure of it.

Finally saw Atonement last night. I really liked it, but it was nothing like how I thought it would be. I thought, based on previews and trailers and the whole marketing thing, that it would be like Titanic with the whole epic love story thing, but it almost wasn't like that at all. It's not really all that lovey-dovey, much more about consequences of mistakes. It's really heart-wrentching and horrifying at some points.

The little girl who plays Briony was quite good, and Keira was magnificant as usual. I'd read the first three or so chapters of the book, and she seemed to really capture the essence of her character. Plus she was gorgeous. tongue Costumes were lovely, and the last shot of her face when she's down in the tunnel just broke my heart. She can do so much with so little time or space.

I cried. It was a very sad ending. cry

Obischick - Glad you enjoyed Atonement! In my opinion it deserves all the awards it gets! happy Joe Wright has taken a difficult book to film and done an amazing job.

I would recommend finishing the book.

I saw it twice and cried at the end both times. All three Brionys were excellent. The girl who played Briony as a child was magnificent for one so young.

My favourite scenes were Keira and James in the tea room and then walking to the bus stop.

The DVD comes out here on Feb 4th and I can't wait to see it again! happy

Lt Piett - It might not be your kind of film but that doesn't stop it being a wonderful one happy

Ander, the new Indy is set for May here in Sweden, and I guess it will have an almost simultaneous global release.
