I think the true story of the PT is a combination of two very big things: Anakin and Padme, and Anakin and Obi-Wan. Each relationship was equally significant, and the end of each equally tragic upon Anakin's turn. So, in essence, Ani/Obi is half the story for me.

Is it possible to love and cherish both the Anakin/Obi-Wan friendship and the Anakin/Padme relationship at the same time? wink

I suppose it is but the whole A/P thing didn't make an impact on me for some reason.
Probably because you see love stories of that sort all over Hollywood films. *shrugs* That's just me though. To me the Obi/Ani 'ship was something unique and special. *shrugs*

EDIT: Page three in a day not too shabby eh?

It definitely is if it works for you. A long time ago I used to be a hardcore A/P fan. Then I saw RotS and I kind of jumped ships. I always like Ani/Obi as a dynamic, but RotS really did it for me. I saw the tragedy. Maybe A/P doesn't affect me so much because Padme wasn't apart of the OT. Ani/Obi carries over, and the relationship and wonderment has been there since 1977. happy

Alley: 3 pages!! more than I thought would happen today.

Wow...we're crazy in here. I'm lovin it.

Equestrian, of course you can love both relationships! I most certainly do. AOTC had the Padme/Anakin love going on, and ROTS (for me) focused around Obi-Wan and Anakin. But of course, what happens in the end is what counts and for me, Padme's death...well, it just didn't sink in all that tragically. The parting of two brothers is what got the water works for me going...

Nice pics Alley. And nice to see new people in here.

I wonder...Do you guys think when Obi-Wan FIRST took Anakin on as a apprentice, he did it solely because of Qui-Gon's request and that Obi-Wan later started loving Anakin?

Thanks for the PM, iLoveAnakin7! I think this thread is a great idea, and it's cool to see others who like both Anakin and Obi-Wan, as well as a space where their relationship can be discussed.

For me Anakin and Obi-Wan shine as brothers more in the EU than in the films, but I must admit I like the way they look together.

Yes, I do too. Although, I think that is inevitable with two guys as attractive as they. wink

Is it possible to love and cherish both the Anakin/Obi-Wan friendship and the Anakin/Padme relationship at the same time?

Of course! I think plenty of us enjoy both. happy

I think Anakin did not really register much on Obi-Wan's radar at first---Obi-Wan had other things going on. And I think he did only consent to take Anakin on because of the direct request of his dying master. But it did seem to me that, over time, he became fond of Anakin, and, I think, Anakin ended up teaching him a few things, too. So perhaps they were both able to benefit.

Yup! I agree with geo there! Obi-Wan came to be fond of Anakin much later then wen he tok Anakin. He didn't even LIKE Anakin in TPM.

Let me start my saying thank you iLoveAnakin7 for the PM

Love this new thread. I've always wanted to explore/discuss the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. I don't think the movies did it justice (not that there was enough time to)

Do you guys think when Obi-Wan FIRST took Anakin on as a apprentice, he did it solely because of Qui-Gon's request and that Obi-Wan later started loving Anakin?

I definitely think the only reason Obi-Wan agreed to take Anakin as his apprentice was because he promised Qui-Gon. I don't think it would have even occurred to him if Qui-Gon hadn't asked. I realy don't think he was ready for the burden of training anyone, much less the Chosen One.

I think it probably took Obi-Wan awhile before he could even begin to open up to Anakin. He was dealing with so much at one time, the death of Qui, being made a Master and in the blink of an eye, having a padawan. That's alot and I think his emotions were all over the place in the beginning. That being said, I think it was inevitable that Obi-Wan would grow to love Anakin as his son. He is such a compassionate, caring man it would have been impossible for him to work with, live with, train and watch Anakin grow into a man not to.

Hi everyone! geo_gnosis, darth_frared, and KELIA glad you guys could make it and WELCOME!! hugs grin

I wonder...Do you guys think when Obi-Wan FIRST took Anakin on as a apprentice, he did it solely because of Qui-Gon's request and that Obi-Wan later started loving Anakin?

Most definitely yes. And I even felt a little sorry for Obi-Wan in the beginning because basically he was sattled with a task he didn't want. But training Anakin overall was good for him. I think he would have been a more stoic being by the time RotS rolled around if Anakin hadn't been there to smooth out the edges. happy

Thanks for the PM, iLoveAnakin7! I think this thread is a great idea, and it's cool to see others who like both Anakin and Obi-Wan, as well as a space where their relationship can be discussed.

Your welcome! Thank Dark_Disciple for the idea! I just randomly saw her idea in a thread and viola! happy I think a thread like this is long overdue.

Yes, I do too. Although, I think that is inevitable with two guys as attractive as they.

QFT!

i don't have time now but you have my support, sweeties.

happy

Let me start my saying thank you iLoveAnakin7 for the PM

Welcome. I'm the shameless thread pimper!

Love this new thread. I've always wanted to explore/discuss the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. I don't think the movies did it justice (not that there was enough time to)

I didn't think there was enough time in the movies either. I mean they really only had RotS and for half the movie they were separated. So I look to EU to expand. And fanfiction happy

I realy don't think he was ready for the burden of training anyone, much less the Chosen One.

Me either. He was fresh out of padawan school, and then ends up with the most difficult student possible. Not to mention the most critical.

He is such a compassionate, caring man it would have been impossible for him to work with, live with, train and watch Anakin grow into a man not to.

I also think they each gave each other something there. Anakin a father figure of sorts, and Obi-Wan an eccentric child to keep his life from falling into a boring blackhole.

Yes. happy

Though I favor the Ani/Obi bond more than the romantic relationship between Anakin and Padme. It just seems so much more natural. grin

I don't want to get into a whole lot of talk about the romance in the two movies but I never really became invested in the Anakin/Padme story. There are points that work though. And it is a needed part of the story for obvious reasons. peace

Now back to the topic of this great thread: Anakin and Obi-wan. happy

They really shine for me at the start of ROTS. All that stuff on the ship. They almost finish each others sentences, playing off the other. The perfect balance. You get the sense that they REALLY have worked well togeather on past misions, whatever they may be.

And the wonderful shot of the two of them taking off their robes when about to face Count Dooku. You know you're about to face two of the best. applause
