"Its too bad that in the end, Anakin finds out the hard way that by helping Sidious, Padme still dies because he does the very thing he's been trying to prevent from happening....make his visions become real. Its interesting that you mentioned that Anakin is running around blind with a knife in his hand since he winds up stabbing Padme in the heart with it although he didn't actually do it but Sidious made him think that he did and by doing so, it led Anakin to believe that he also killed the unborn child which destroys him completely. "...endquote

Yep. Anakin became a slave to his own emotions. It was his emotionalism, as well as his selfish attachments that lead him there.

Like someone said on another thread, Anakin confused compassionate love with posessive love. It took Anakin getting a well disserved spanking at the hands of Obi Wan, him being a slave to the darkside, and him seeing his own son for him to see the error of his ways. Him seeing Luke do someting he should've done many years ago is what ultimately redeemed Anakin at the end. It saved his soul.

Personally I think, that Anakin from the very beginning was in a shower the good person. Too emotional - yes, too obstinate - too. Simply, I think, it since the childhood has got used to bear the responsibility - all over again for mother, then somewhat for the teacher, even for all Republic as a whole. As a result of all this has poured out in its mania of all to rescue. Well and still that it could not reconcile to defeat. It could not rescue mother - and consequently it should rescue at any cost even Padme. It loved it, yes, but on the other hand, it has offered to rescue it, an opportunity to become that whom it considered as an ideal. This much means. It has turned to the one whom hated. And that it thought that children were lost together with mother is logically. It in fact thought, that has strangled Padme.

Just poking head in--I missed this thread!

But, in all honestly, at one point, I believe that his mind had been so twisted and corrupted that it wasn't even about saving Padme anymore. It had turned into overthrowing Sidious, and taking over the galaxy. The next time you watch Episode III, on the Anakin and Padme Mustafar scene, watch how Anakin's facial expression changes.
It seems like he loses every bit of facial expression he has.
Padme knew right then, when his face was going completely blank. It was almost like she could sense his downfall, and in that moment she realized everything was true, but she continued to fight for him.
When she grabs the sides of his head and starts stroking his hair, searching his eyes for some bit of Anakin, any bit of Anakin. And she declares, "Come away with me...help me raise our child..Leave EVERYTHING else behind! While we still can!" He is just staring at her with the most spine rippling, lip quivering, goose-bump creating, nerve shocking face..that I believe I have ever seen. It's just like there was no bit of him left then. That right at that moment, the cortuption had completely overthrown Anakin, and now he was fully Darth Vader.

It's the most frightening thing(I can only imagine.) to realize that your husband, and the Father of your unborn children is no longer there anymore. That his (newly) main concern is to overthrow the Chancellor and take over the galaxy.

How heartshattering must that be? worried

Yeah, I can see what you're saying, although I read a little something different into it. He was remote, and unresponsive to her pleas in general, which could either be Vader or shock (being pulled in many directions). When she made her last ditch effort and said, "Come away with me...." I thought I saw surprise cover his face, like he was moved for a moment before he noticed Obi-Wan over her shoulder. Then there were the books, that said Padme could sense a trace of goodness in him even then, while Kenobi couldn't. When he woke up as Vader he apparently still thought of himself as Anakin and wanted to help Padme no matter what, though with her passing he completely crossed over because, "there was nothing left alive he loved anymore."

I just feel so sad for the both of them. Whether towards the end of ROTS family or power were more important is unclear, but A/P losing each other was clearly life-altering for the both of them. I hope they found each other in the afterlife at least. praying
