Welcome to the Jedi Temple!

This is a game thread where the Council Members oversee the training of progressing Jedi and Jedi hopefuls.

This is the third installment of the great community known as the Jedi Trials. The first version hit 49,000 posts, and needed to be closed for the sake o' the servers. The second one was closed as dispute and disharmony threatened the community of the Trials.

The rules, standards and guidelines for the game are in the following post. Please read them before posting in the thread, which means you agree to said rules and so on. If you have questions about this game, it might be best to contact one of the leaders of the thread, also known as the game's Council Members. They are:

DarthHorax (Game Founder)
GhostJedi (Head Council Member)
Emperor_Windu
masterjedi343
SwordoftheJedi

Have fun and let the Trials continue!!!

Version 1.0
Version 2.0
Offsite

Inty Edit: Thread closed on February 11th, 2008. Discussions on a new Jedi Trials thread can begin on March 11th. So long, good thread. You were great for the community, and you'll be missed.

Joining the Trials:
Initiates must have 100 posts in order to be considered for Padawanship. If a user does not have 100 posts, but want to be a part of the society, they may join the Bear Clan. While there, they may build their post count and learn the Jedi ways.

Pictures Policy:
For tasks including pictures, please be aware that SWC has a limit of four pictures per post. It is strongly suggested that users post their pictures as [link= rather than [image= . That way only the people who want to see the pictures can see them. However, four images in the task itself will be acceptable.

Spam and the Jedi Trials:
"Hello/Goodbye" type posts are not allowed. That being said, a degree of socializing is acceptable within the game itself. Socializing here and there is fine. However, the majority of posts should relate to the game itself, as this is a game thread and not a social thread. Gentle and polite reminders of the "No Hello/Goodbye posts" portion of this rule are acceptable from members of the Trials. However, please leave ALL other handling of spam situation entirely to the SWC mods. If there is an issue with spamming in the Trials, please contact a SWC forum mod.

Standards and Expectations:
All members of the Jedi Trials:
All members are expected to remember that this is a game thread. It is most important to have fun. In order for the game to be fun, certain guidelines and rules are necessary to keep the game running smoothly and working well. As this is a game, users are asked to be friendly and respectful of each other. All members are expected to stay active and post regularly when online. These posts should be meaningful and contribute to the game itself. Socializing is acceptable within reason. The Trials should not contain pages and pages of only socializing. When a member is going to be inactive for a period of time, they should communicate this to either their master, the keeper of the Roster or the Council. Members who go inactive without any notification risk being placed on an inactive list or even removal from the Trials if enough time elapses.

Younglings
All expectations for members of the Trials apply to Youngings as well. In addition, they are expected to be active around the Trials doing tasks that prepare them for training. They are expected to work on post quality as they work towards their required minimum 500 posts. Spamming will not be tolerated.

Padawans
In addition to the expectations set for all members, Padawans are expected to keep in contact with their Masters. This ensures that they remain active during perhaps the most critical phase of their time in the Trials. Padawans are expected to get their tasks done on time and to do them quickly yet effectively. Any issues with a task should be communicated to their Master as soon as possible.

Masters (of Padawans)
Training an apprentice is one of the most important roles within the Trials. Masters of Padawans are expected to remain very active and involved for the duration of training. They should respond to any and all of their Padawan's missions within a reasonable amount of time. All tasks assigned by any member of the Trials are expected to stay within the rules and guidelines of the Trials and adhere to the TOS. Masters are asked to provide an example for the Padawan of how one should post in the Trials and around the JC. If a Master must be inactive for any time during the training of a Padawan, they are expected to notify the council to allow for tasks during the Master's absence.

Jedi Trials Council Members:
Council members are responsible for helping the order by helping its members. They overseeing the running of the Trials and guide the direction of the game. It is important sometimes for a Council member to be aware of when to act, most especially when it's not specifically asked for. They are the ones setting an example of how to post and what to post. It is very important that Council members have a good relationship with the members of the order and a high visibility within the Trials. The following are expectations for all members of the Jedi Trials Council:
- Council members will work with members' questions and concerns, addressing them as needed and in a timely fashion.
- Council members are expected to remain active in the Trials thread, posting several times a week. Posts to the offsite boards are not considered activity within the Trials thread.
- Communication with the Trials at-large members is critical and expected from all members of the Council.
- Council members must recognize when issues within the Trials are better handled by the SWC Mods.

Inactivity & Hiatus for members:
The Roster will contain two sections: Hiatus and Inactive. Users who take the time and effort to notify the Trials/Council that they will be away from the Trials for a time will be respected by having their name remain on the Roster under the Hiatus section. Users who simply vanish, drift away or otherwise stop posting in the thread without notice will be removed from the Roster after four weeks of inactivity and kept on a separate list. The Council can then decide what to do with users who wish to return to active status from inactive status, as well as what to do with really long term or indefinate hiatus.

Returning to the Trials:
When a member falls to the Dark Side and then decides to come back to the Jedi Trials, the Council will have a discussion with him/her and find out the reasoning for their actions. The Council will then vote on whether or not the person will be allowed back into the Jedi Trials. This vote will be one of simple majority.

Inactivity & Hiatus for Council members:
As with normal members, Hiatus and Inactive status will be used. Council members are expected to Trials/Council that they will be away from the Trials for a time. If this time will be less than one month, then Council member will be marked as on Hiatus with a return date listed in the Roster. If this time is more than one month, the Council member is asked to relenquish their position on the Council. Council members who stop posting in the thread without notice will be removed from the Council after two weeks of inactivity and the Roster itself after four weeks. As with at-large members, they will be kept on a separate list. The Council can then decide what to do with the former Council members who wish to return to active status from inactive status.

Council Member selection:
Council members will be selected in a joint process between the Council and the at-large members. For an open Council slot, the Council will discuss, agree on and nominate three members they feel would make quality Council members. These three Candidates would then be voted on by all active members, Knights and up. Council members are able to vote. These votes will be made in the thread and the process will be monitored by the Council and the forum moderators for fairness. Campaigning is strictly forbidden, especially in the Trials thread, or in PM. The vote will last until a mathematical majority of the active eligible voters is won by a particular candidate or ten days, whichever comes first. If voter turnout is low, the Council is responsible for PMing members to make sure they know of the vote. In the event of a tie between two candidates, the third candidate with the least votes will be dropped from the ballot and another vote will take place. This vote will last until a mathematical majority of the active eligible voters is won by a particular candidate or four days, whichever comes first. If this vote is still a tie, then the head of the Council will nominate one of the two candidates to fill the seat.

Council Inactivity Process:
When a council member is seen to be inactive, a selected Council member will send a PM looking into the situation. Then the situation goes to the Council of Reconciliation, a special committee commissioned for the purpose of addressing the issue. This council will consist of the Head Council member, a Council member selected by the Council as a whole, an at-large member of the Trials (Knight or higher) selected by the Head Couoncil member and one of the SWC forum mods. This council of four would then review the situation, working with the inactive Council member, if possible, in discussions of how to address the situation. The Council of Reconciliation would then have the ability to make a collective judgement call, including the power to remove someone from the Council. If a Council member is then removed, they have one opportunity to come back later and return to the Council if and when a spot opens up and they go through the selection process. However if a previously removed Council member returns and then goes inactive again and is removed again, they may not return again.

Head Council Member:
The Head of the Trials/Head Council Member will be chosen by the Council from its existing members. In order to become the Head Council Member, an existing Council Members needs to get the majority vote of all eligible Council Members. This means if there are seven Council Members, the person needs four votes. Before the vote is made final, SWC mods will review the selection, and have veto power if needed.

I was going to post: "Think you can get by without reading the rules? Well, read the rules."

Though, if I did that after every post:

A. I'd get bored.

B. It would be considered spam, thus leading the thread into further conflict.

I made an announcement in the FG topic at the off-site that the Trials are back.
