Arbed: I heard about the awful weather in Wisconsin (and Illinois?). I hope you're doing OK. When I was there, it was sunny most of the time - cold as hell, but sunny
Are you people looking forward to the new SW movie, or do you think it's going to be bad?
High or low expectations?

Does he have a big part in it? I certainly hope so. You can argue either way, but OBW is key to Star-Wars - almost as much as Anakin/Vader in that he is such an opposite...

I can only hope. But I think it will be a bit more Anakin centered. I just want to see lots of interaction between the team or I will be somewhat disappointed.

from what I've seen from the trailers and from my own interpretation of them both Obi and Anakin have big parts in the new movie.

Obi Wan is a good character because he doesn't become a slave to his own emotions. It takes more than just being a good swordsman to being a good Jedi. It takes wisdom.
Wisdom is what Anakin lacked, and he paid for it dearly. Anakin became a slave to his own emotions, thus he defeated himself. Anakin defeated himself against Obi Wan when he allowed his anger and his arrogance to get the better of him. Instead of conceding defeat (when Obi Wan had a tatical advantage on him) and owning up to his mistakes, he continued to go down a destructive path. As a result, Obi Wan chopped off his legs and his other arm.
Like it or not, Obi Wan and Anakin's stories are both intertwined. Both are a huge part of each other's lives, whether the fans like it or not. Obi Wan is the ideal person, much like Superman, whereas Anakin represents the flaws of humanity, much like Lex Luthor. In the end (ROTJ), you can say that Anakin learned from his former master because it took him being enslaved in a suit, all caused by his stupid actions, to realise that it takes wisdom and maturity to be a great Jedi, not just having power or being a great swordsman. It also takes being able to let go, which is what Anakin did at the end.
So yes, Obi Wan is a wise character. It was through Obi Wan that Luke was trained, and Luke redeemed his father.

"I think that Anakin would've turned anyhow. In him there was this burning desire for power, which is not very Jedi-like."...endquote
No he wouldn't have. Or else the notion of him being too old for training and him having emotional attachments never would've been played up the way they were. Him being too old for training and him having emotional attachments were the root cause of him falling to the darkside in the first place.
Anakin was not born evil, neither was he evil as a child. You can't honestly watch TPM and say that Anakin was inheritly evil in that movie. Anakin was a sweet, innocent kid who had idealistic dreams of freeing the slaves. His reasoning for joining the Jedi was actually very pure and innocent. It was for a selfless cause. At the same time, that thing called emotional attachment put a damper into things, and he fell to the darkside as a result.
No one is born evil and no one starts out evil. Its the choices we make later on in life that decides our fate. That's what Lucas was showing the audience. Its up to the audience to be open minded enough to accept the truth. Remember, it was that one ounce of good in him that was left in ep. 6 that ultimately saved him.
Obi Wan and other jedi started their training on time, so they weren't prone to emotional attachments. When it came up, Jedi like Obi Wan were able to overcome them.

solojones posted: Heck yeah! I was glad he got more time in ROTS but never understood why he wasn't even more important throughout the PT Or the OT (even though he was dead... so ) I think it's amazing that an ostensibly secondary character (though we don't see him that way) is the most popular character in the overall census fav SW character poll
My LWD dvds are shipping from Amazon UK right now, so I'm excited about those. I've read half the book so far and love it...
About Anakin's visits with Palps... they obviously knew, although once he was on his own probably less so. And Obi-Wan was alway suspicious of Palpatine in general. But any bad feelings were probably chalked up to Obi-Wan's general dislike of politicians.

You see, Obi Wan is important all throughout the saga. He trained the main character (Anakin) to a Jedi Knight, and helped trained the main character's son (Luke) to a Jedi Knight, even from beyond the grave. Sure Anakin fell to the darkside, but it was from Obi Wan's training, as well as from Luke's compassion, that saved Anakin at the end. This enabled Anakin to fulfill his destiny in destroying the sith (Palpatine and himself), thus bringing balance to the force.
Not to mention, it was from Obi Wan's training that Luke not only became a great Jedi, he (Luke) fulfilled his own destiny in restoring the Jedi Order later on.
So while Obi Wan is not the main character of the saga, he played a huge role in the lives of two of the main characters and good ultimately triumphing over evil.

Never in a million years. Anakin will be 100% loyal to the Jedi and Obi-wan that he will have the willpower to resist all of PalpSidious's mindtricks. Therefore, he would never become Darth Vader and the prophecy would be fulfilled much earlier.
How can you be so sure? Dooku turned. He was raised practically from birth, as most Jedi. His problem, as Anakin's, was that he desired more. Anakin was extremely powerful, and because of that he wanted even more. In a sense Dooku mirrors Anakin, and I think that Lucas intended to show us that Anakin was almost destined to turn - although I'm not a big fan of destiny as such
Count Dooku knew of his past, whereas most Jedi don't. Not to mention, Dooku had personal attachments of his own, much like Anakin. Because of that, he fell to the darkside, too.
Jedi who are raised from infants are not suppose to know where they came from, so they don't form those attachments. That's why Obi Wan has no emotional attachments, and that's why Yoda has no problem with that, too. Big, big difference, my friend.
