Welcome to the Recruiting Thread for the ninth Sleepy game. Since September 2003, there have been eight Sleepies, seven of them in the YJCC and one in Census + Games. In every single game, there has been a pool of players ranging from 20 to 50, and just one winner, and oppositely, the mysterious Murderer! This is the first time a Sleepy will be here in the Star Wars Community forum, as hosted by Coruscant, creator of the series.

Intro and Pre-Game Process

Tailor themed for the forum, players of the Ghost Ship Executor will choose Star Wars characters from all across the canon and the game will be set in the Star Wars universe, in the very same super Star Destroyer Executor that supposedly crashed into the second Death Star. Your characters will find themselves on board the ill-fated Executor, a contained environment within another contained environment- a seductive, fly-trap nebula that reputedly cannot be escaped.

You can choose any character from the Star Wars canon, as long as somebody else hasn't already claimed it. You may not play as a character of Fan Fiction origins. Your character does not have to be alive BYS to be eligible.

Considered we have enough players, the game will begin sometime between Easter (March 23rd) and early-to-mid April. We're aiming for a pool of about 30 to 40 players. But, hey, surprise us! Let's get 50 or the as-of-yet unreached 60!

After we have closed the recruiting process, your host, Coruscant, will proceed to handpick GSE's (Ghost Ship Executor) Murderer. Only Cor and the co-hosts will know the identity of the Murderer. Don't bother asking them who the Murderer is, because they won't tell you. tongue

You already know the scheduled window for when the game will begin, but as recruitment comes to closing, an exact, pre-determined start date will be chosen on the basis of what is most convenient and accessible to the players.

The moment the game thread is posted, that's the very last cut-off. After that point, you can't quit the game without penalty. So if you get second thoughts, have them before the start date. You'll know what the start date is at least a week ahead of time.

Between the beginning of recruitment and the game, you are totally free to socialize with fellow players. There's no restrictions about that. Many times in the past, recruitment threads for Sleepy games have turned into unofficial social threads. There's nothing wrong with that, either. Just don't a.) spam and b.) invite or talk to friends who are posting in the thread yet have not joined the game. Talk to them elsewhere. tongue

The Game

When the game begins, there will be a period of about an hour or two when your characters have a little "get-to-know-each-other" time. Then the Host will present you with your first Challenge. Technically, you don't have to participate in challenges but it is strongly encouraged, especially since by sometimes completing but in most cases winning challenges, you win helpful rewards, like temporary immunity from murder. Some of the more major challenges are intertwined with the central storyline of the game. As such, these challenges will be scheduled when there's guaranteed to be a lot of players online.

At the end of the first or second day, there will be the first Murder Post of GSE. Before every Murder Post, the Murderer chooses his or her victim, as well as a scene of crime, and a method of death. This information is included in the Murder Posts. For the more involved and major players, the Host will also write up a murder narrative.

An MP (murder post) may contain one or both of the following items: a clue(s) and/or a red herring(s). It's the Host and Co-Host's job to drop clues. It's the Murderer's job to mirror that with red herrings to protect him/herself.

Because, you see, if someone guesses the Murderer's identity using the clues, then you may PM the Host with your guess. The Host will send a preliminary PM back, asking, "Are you absolutely sure?" If you say yes, one of two things will happen. If you're wrong, you will be immediately eliminated from the game and your character offed in the soonest Murder Post. If you're right, then your character murders the Murderer, your player eliminates the Murderer's player, and you become the new Murderer! Remember, if you're right, that's it. You're the new Murderer. You don't have a choice in the matter. You have to be the new Murderer. So only take a guess if you're absolutely sure you want to murder.

In the event that a Murderer is murdered and replaced, you will know. It will be clearly announced in a Murder Post. This is information that you as a player know. But depending on the storyline, your character may not know at all.

This is how the game goes all the way to the Endgame. Like the start, the Endgame will be a pinpointed date that the final players find most convenient. During Endgame, the current Murderer cannot be replaced. Once the Murderer reaches Endgames, s/he's the final one. Endgame always last for about a day or two, with challenges all around, and one murder after another in the final hours.

Eventually, the Murderer will kill his/her last player and the last remaining player wins the game by default, and that character prevails over the Murderer and escapes the mysterious nebula.

Rewards and Penalties

Losing the game gets you a 24. As always, you can post under a sock.

Winning the game gets you one-week VIPship. Winner gets bragging rights as champion of the 9th Sleepy, Ghost Ship Executor. Additionally, the runner-up shall receive 24 hours of colors.

The final Murderer doesn't get any ban at all.

Returning to the game via resurrection is quite rare. Never has a player been eliminated, come back resurrected, got killed again, and got a second resurrection. And that will probably never be. If there is a resurrection, it's a one-time deal for no more than two players in a game. If it happens at all. So if you're eliminated, please don't count on coming back. Don't go begging the Host for a second chance.

2. and so forth
3.
4.
and on and on and on...

The Host will start off. He does have a character in the game, but it's purely for technical purposes and won't be winning anything, nor is it up for the Murderer role.

Once again, you may choose any Star Wars character from the canon. No FanFic-only characters allowed. Your character doesn't have to be alive Beyond-the-Saga for eligibility. Pretend all chosen characters will be made magically alive onboard the GSE.

Some characters are so major that they cover different eras, for example, Obi-Wan in the PT and Obi-Wan in the OT. In these cases, two separate players can play the two different Obi-Wans. Other examples would include.... Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker, pre-Windu Palpatine, post-Windu Palpatine, etc...

Dichotomies like these will be legitimized on a case-by-case basis by the Host. For example, one player can't choose ANH Luke and another play ESB Luke. There will only be one Luke in this game. However, the Host would make an exception for OT-era Luke and current EU Luke.

The Player List

1. Coruscant - Admiral Firmus Piett, ghost
2.
3.
4.

You may still choose Piett, if you like. The different between the Host's Piett and a player's is that the Host's will be used for hosting purposes in a very literary way. The Host's version of the character is also a ghost and is quintessentially part of the GSE. As such, the ghostly Piett has certain omni abilities that a potential player's Piett wouldn't have. The Host's Piett is also sort of the property of the Co-Hosts, as well, in the event that the Host is not available and a Challenge, a Murder Post, a story post, or something else needs doing.

The History of Sleepy Games (optional, extra reading)

Coruscant started the Sleepy series in September 2003, with the Sleepy Mansion. It wasn't very glamorous or cutting edge, but it was a start. Jedi_Sha won the game and the Murderer was tatooinewizard. Back then, players made up their own characters.

After Mansion finished, the recruitment started immediately for Sleepy Castle. The game began in the Autumn of 2003 with a pool of 40 players and a start of two Murderers. They were Master_Jacen and Sith_Priestess. The_Bluest_Twilek soon guessed both of their identities right at the same time and became the Murderer herself, for most of the game's duration, right up to the end in February 2004. JediANGELA won as the game wrapped up over 330 pages, 25 ppp. Sleepy Castle is probably the most well-loved game in the series, with a camaraderie as of yet unequaled.

Not a day passed and recruitment began for Sleepy Hotel. This was the first of two times a Sleepy game had 50 players. It began in early April 2004 and surpassed 100 pages within the first 24 hours. 600 pages later, the game ended after filing through four separate Murderers. They were, respectively, jedi_john_33, OGOneKenobi69, StarWars_Revelation, and finally, dashleebo. The winner was The_Jesstar. milney assisted in the game's production and was an unofficial Co-Host.

In summer 2005, Sleepy Isle opened in the Census forum. It was mostly hosted by Earwen_Lightrider, who was also the Murderer. This is the first and only time the series had dual winners, in spacelady, and Imperial_Hammer, now the RPF's new Moderator.

There was a break in the Sleepies for a while, but it returned as Sleepy Palace in the Autumn of 2006. For the first time, players didn't create characters of their own but picked living, non-fictional personalities out from popular culture. Some such characters included Drew Barrymore (runner-up) and Queen Elizabeth II (the winner). harpuah was the Murderer, as Wavy Gravy, and unofficial co-host. Sleepy Palace is the one other time besides Castle that there were two murderers at the same time. Halfway through the game, Imrahil, as Michael Moore, became a second Murderer but was guessed correctly by harpuah before he could kill. The winner was GrandAdmiralJello, before he became moderator of EUC.

Sleepy Area 51 started and ended on the same day in May 2007, a special one-day version. Players were killed off every hour, sometimes in multiples. The Murderer was a known non-player, Quixotic-Sith, posting from and dominating the game as the sock Ozymandius. The winner was DancerPadme. Area 51's theme were dead historical figures, including Julius Caesar and Helen Keller.

Recruitment immediately began after Area 51's end for Sleepy Tower, the big summer game. By the game's beginning, 50 players had been recruited, the first number that high since Sleepy Hotel three years previous. Dr. Who, Superman, and Bugs Bunny made it to the end after over 300 pages, as played by TIEPilot051999, solojones, and JarJarHater, respectively. There were three Murderers throughout the course of the game: solojones as Superman/Clark Kent (she was guessed out, eliminated, and resurrected as a normal player), DARTH_GOLLUMSMEAGOL as Link, and, finally, Tower's most enduring murderer, Ender Wiggin, played by Keijo-Sawyer.

Who will join the legacy of Sleepy as a winner? A runner-up? A Murderer? We shall find out.

Post prepared by Coruscant, posted by DarthIntegral.

Chukles38 and Rilwen_Shadowflame will be serving as the co-hosts for this game. It should be noted that the co-hosts may play the game with or without socks (if they desire anonymity of some degree), but are not eligible to win the game, thanks to their knowledge of the inner workings.

Hello, guys! grin

Great so far, some very good character choices. Alas, of course, Vader had to be taken.

Zedd, TLI... any questions? Just churn 'em out, if you have to.

Just a quick one, seeing as though this is my first Sleepy Game, might I ask how active one must be? I mean I can check at least a few times per day if need be, but I can't monitor the game religiously (work/school and the like)

Just one for now. What's the policy on movement and number of actions per post? Say, if I wanted to go from the bridge to the docking bay, would that just be traversed in one post or many small ones?

A few times per day is plenty enough, as players throughout Sleepy Tower (the largest game in recent memory) proved. Many other players would undoubtedly be more active and have much more to present, quantitatively. But like posting, the golden standard is quality, not quantity. You will want to be very active in the thread on the first day or two, and we're going to find a day that will facilitate maximal activity from the greatest number of players. After the start, you'll find a balance that satisfies your posting habits and the priorities of RL, as many quality players in Sleepy Tower were able to do. If you're going to check in a few times a day, but those times will be few and far between, then make sure your IC posts are more broad and keep your character up with the rest of the action. If you're going to check in at one time a day, but be on for a long time during that one period, then your IC posts should reflect that accordingly by being more interactive and short. And, of course, I will be providing constant updates and summaries so if you're in a tight spot but want to participate, you don't have to read the previous posts/pages since the last time you were around. I will mark where these special posts are in my signature.

There's really no policy there. Just keep it natural, really. Typically, in challenges when you have plenty of time, you and other players will spend more time moving about from place to place, but sometimes time may be a little short. GSE will have the most elaborate challenges yet. In the past, players had a lot of freedom concerning time and movement and space, but with Executor, I'll be choreographing where players should be if they want to complete and win the challenge in time.

Hm, interesting spin on things. I've got a question-- with players being Jedi and the like this time around, how would the Force and respective strengths/weaknesses of the characters come into play?

Oooh, great, great question! I had been thinking about that last week, too. I mean, I assume you're talking about relationships between Force characters and non-Force characters?

Pretty much, it ain't an even playing field. It's not like when the characters wake up mysteriously onboard the GSE (just to speak, there's a more elaborate explanation that will be unveiled throughout the course of the game), every character will magically have Force powers. This is the way it was in Sleepy Tower and there were no problems at all. When it comes down to it, it's up to the smarts and social skills of both player and his/her character to find their way in the game.

As for the character that's the Murderer, that'll require some liberties if the choice is a non-Force user and there will be an explanation for that, too, by the end of the game.

If you have any questions, I guess I'll try to answer them, but you'd be better off runnning to Coruscant. tongue
