For those who don't know, a Starwoid is a Star Wars geek. I have always been a huge SW fan, but lately I have found myself venturing into Star Trek, mainly the Next Generation. I think being both would be like believing in two religions, like being a Christian and a Bhuddist, actually i am a Christian a Protestant one though, and i do admire and respect the Buddha as well, but reguard him as not being in the same catagory as Jesus Christ.
I am a fan of anything Sci-Fi that is good too, including Lord of the Rings, i guess that also makes me a Ringer.

It is possible. There are quite a few here that are, most of the Trekkie jokes come from a mild rivalry. I've tried it and it doesn't do anything for me, but I tend to like more of the Fantasy stuff than true Sci-fi.

Yeah, it's not much different than cheering for two different sports teams. Of course you can be a big fan of Star Wars and Star Trek. You just have to love Star Wars more.
No real difference, IMO, to also being a HP, LotR, BSG, etc in addition to Star Wars fan.

Ditto (horsey), it depends whether you're a sci-fi or a fantasy person, I consider Star Wars right in between so it's possible.
Off-topic: Are "Starwoid" and "Ringer" official slang terms? I was just about to make a thread to ask about that.

I like anything that has a good story, i used to stay up late to watch Voyager and Deep Space Nine and the Rivalry thing is stupid and beyond petty.
I also love Lord of the Rings because it was an awesome book and several great movies that were well directed, i have even thought of what would happen if the Empire tried to invade Middle Earth and Darth Vader discovered the One Ring and desired it as well, thus leading Storm Troopers into Middle Earth to search for the Ring and getting caught up in the war.
Just a weird thought but that would be interesting.

If you are both, then it has to be possible. Because you are.

Pfft...I say no. Star Wars and Star Trek are like rivals pretty much. It's like sacrilegious to me. Go to a Star Trek forum...
I only kid. I don't see why not, it's not like anyone is going to stop you from liking something. I don't really care for Star Trek, but I do like Harry Potter so, I guess it's kind of the same thing.

Yeah I love both Star Wars and Star Trek.
Got one from each of my parents. My dad hates Star Trek and loves Star Wars whereas my mum loves Star Trek and hates Star Wars.
That said I still like Star Wars more than Star Trek.

I would like to understand what you believe the difference is between the use of magic and wizardry in LOTR and the same in Harry Potter.

Damn right it's possible, I'm a total Sci-Fi nut. Star Wars been the main influence, with Star Trek second, the list could go on, but I won't bore you.

Just for the record, I dislike the term "Starwoid" because... well, it sounds dumb. I am not a starwoid, but I loves me some Star Wars.
I am also a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, but I dislike being categorized as a "ringer".
I enjoy Harry Potter -- books and movies -- but I am not and never shall be a "Potterhead" or whatever ludicrous name is being attahced to fans of that series.
I could go on, but I'll stop there and spare you the silliness of what I imagine to be the name for fans of Tarzan.

May I suggest we move this discussion elsewhere?
Without making an assertion as to wether it's true or not, I'll just say that we believe that Rowling studied the black arts and incorporated them into her books.
I'm not saying that's true, though I believe it is, 'cause I'm trying to avoid an argument and still answer your question.
