Kill Bill is definitely one of my fav films of all time. They were the first Tarantino films I saw, then i watched Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Like those too. Haven't seen Jackie Brown, is it good? Although I have Bobby Womack's Across 110th street, which to my understanding plays in the film as well. Is it worth watching?

I can't wait for that movie! I love how they have made the look of the film to be 70's / 80's film stock. It is obviously designed to be over-the-top B grade.

So, is this going to be 2 x 1 hour movies (2 hours total) or 2 x 2 hours (yes, you guessed correctly... 4 hours running time total)?

kill bill was the first tarantino movie i watched, as well. then i saw pulp fiction. but because kill bill replayed on a weekend, i almost got sick of it. its easier for me to see pulp fiction more.

With Tarantino, his film tastes are a hit and a miss. He loves alot of the same cinema I love. An undoubtable gifted director, yes. But he expropiates too much material from other cinema, a fact that has dropped the value of his filmography, IMO.

That's because you don't understand that sampling/remixing is the definitive art form of the 21st century.

Where'd you pull that unenlightened ball of lint from?

Yes, I do hate Kill Lady Snowbill. Didn't find the film congratulatory or respectful to both Asian and Italian cinema.

Do yourself a favor!

It's just my assessment of the state of art and culture today, one which I happen to share with many others, based on my years of formal and informal study and reading in cultural theory, art history, etc. I take it you don't listen to a lot of hip-hop or electronic music, or at the very least you don't take it seriously enough, or you haven't paid much attention to the art world in the past 40 years or so, at least.

I plan to. Lady Snowblood has been on my "to watch" list for a long time, along with about a gazillion other movies, and comparable "to read" and "to hear" and "to visit" lists.

As long as we're handing out recommendations, here is one of my own.

There are now rumours that the Weinsteins intend to chop "Grindhouse" in half and release the pieces, so to speak.

That was pretty much confirmed as soon as Grindhouse bombed opening weekend.

Probably a good move, since seeing it an actual movie theatre was a huge part of the grindhouse "experience" they were going for.

Another example, perhaps, of the axiom that you can't deliberately create a cult film.

actually, if it had been a huge success it would've been too popular to be a cult film. So by both flopping and being great, it has no choice BUT to become a cult film. Weird how that works out, eh? tongue

Indeed. tongue

Perhaps I should amend that to: You can't create a successful first run film out of cult materials. See also: "Snakes on a Plane"

I don't think a day goes by where I don't quote Pulp Fiction. Every time I get a burger with my friends, one of us says "Mmmhmm, this IS a tasty burger!"

So is Grindhouse out of theaters now? I really wanted to see it, and one of my friends is obsessed with it so I figured I would like it as well.
