RE: "True believers!" - the Marvel Comics thread
"I was really hurt when Kaine told me about the new direction they have taken Captain America, about him becoming a hippie anti-war protestor or some crap like that."
Hmmm... i don't think thats exactly what i said. I think i said that it was Spidey that was a hippy, i don't think i said either of them were anti-war protestors. If you ask me, its very clear that Captain America is conservitive, and that Spidey is a liberal.
I remember the issue that i was telling TripleB about. Captain America disaproved of these terrorists trying to blow up an Airport to get to Dr. Doom, and i think it was Spidey that just flat out disaproved of anyone trying to kill Dr. Doom.
At the time i think i twisted it a little for my own agenda.

RE: "True believers!" - the Marvel Comics thread
I hope I'm the only one who takes perverse delight in reading Claremont's Xtreme X-Men
Marvel Previews for September 24 courtesy of X-Fan
Xtreme X-Men #31
First off, I have to say, Igor Kordey's work has vastly improved since his New X-Men run (admittedly, those issues he pencilled were last minute replacements)! I would prefer that Sal Larocca was still on Xtreme (I guess Larocca covers will have to suffice), but from Claremont's comments on X-fan it looks like he's pleased with Kordey's work. And it does look good. It's unfortunate that we didn't get to see the new Xtreme costumes in action (though Kordey posted uninked pencils on his website,
http://kordey.ca
). They still retain the red and black coloring, but they're more urban and feature detachable sleeves and coat bottoms.
Kordey's new costume designs
Second, it looks like 2 years after everyone else in Marvel has done so, Claremont has adopted the recap page for Xtreme, though he still uses the traditional narration boxes instead of the standard Marvel recap page. Hopefully with the recap page he'll no longer put long-winded descriptions of characters and their powers into more narration boxes (or worse yet, into the dialogue proper). From these first pages it looks like Claremont is finally updating his outdated style. Now this is only a 4 page preview, but hopefully he's dropped the narration boxes and thought bubbles completely.

RE: "True believers!" - the Marvel Comics thread
Although Bendis and Austen seem to be writing everything these days, and the editors at Marvel have been continually earning my ire since 2000, here are some titles that I think are worth reading:
Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man
- JMS (#30-present) Although
The Spectacular Spider-Man
has started up again, I'd recommend reading the TPBs of Jenkins' previous run on
Peter Parker: Spider-Man
(#20-50) before picking it up.
Ultimate Spider-Man
- Bendis
X-Men
There are about a hundred of these titles out right now, but in my experience only two are really worth my money:
Exiles
by Judd Winick and
Weapon X
by Frank Tieri. Oh yeah, and Vaughan's
Mystique
ongoing title is pretty good too. Of course, you may check out
New X-Men
if Magneto's return excites you.
Fantastic Four
- Mark Waid
Thor
- Dan Jurgens
Daredevil
- David Mack
The MAX line
Alias
- Bendis
Thor: Vikings
- Garth Ennis

Now i know the ULTIMATE line has received alot of critical praise, but am i the only one who just can't get into them?
I just find the whole idea REALLY silly.. Yet another reason why comics are near-impossible for a person who isn't among the iniatiated to pick up..
I mean, if Johnny-i-saw-the-X-men-movie comes and picks up an issue of "Ultimate X-Men", will he not be entirely confused?
What is there to be gained from this?

No, but Spidey actually works really well for this format.

We were talking about something else, and you went into how they changed Captain America and said something about becoming a hippie or anti-war protester or something like that, which to me I took that apparently a freak left wing liberal had gotten to be editor at Marvel Comics, and was willing to destroy the reputation of one of AMerica's greatest SuperHero's just to make a political point in 2003.
I remember the issue that i was telling TripleB about. Captain America disaproved of these terrorists trying to blow up an Airport to get to Dr. Doom, and i think it was Spidey that just flat out disaproved of anyone trying to kill Dr. Doom.
It was something else, I forget just when or woen. I do remember the conversation you are refering to, my point was that I remember in an
Invaders
comic, that Captain America, Bucky, and the Original Human Torch infiltrated a German town deep behind enemy lines, to try to assasinate Arnin Zola and someone else, and how Captain America never shied away from it as it was a legitimate military target, and that Captain America should have recognized that when it came to Dr Doom.
At the time i think i twisted it a little for my own agenda.
Well, thanks for clearing that up!!!!!
I hope you get banned for that
I spent the last few months believing that one of my all time favorite characters had been corrupted by some gay freak left wing liberal at Marvel just to make points in 2003.

...has anyone been reading this "Marvel 1602" series by Neil Gaiman?
I just stumbled upon it at the comic store the other day...
Wondered if it was worth checking out...?

Yes, 1602 is worth your time and your money.
I'm really excited and feel really clever because I just figured out who Virginia Dare's bodyguard is. Here's a hint, he's a BLONDE Native American and he takes out the Vulture with a disc.
