Vortigern99 posted: Order would have been much better served as two separate films. There was so much left out it was deplorable. All my problems with OotP lie in the stunted script, even if that crippled screenplay was however beautifully filmed and put together. If they had had four or five hours to play around in, it could have been a masterpiece.
I don't think it's at all possible that OOTP would have worked as two films... it just needed to be over three hours long, as you said.
MAGGIE! I hope she's doing well.

QFT. I hope we don't have to recast McGonagall, now that we are so close to the end of the story. One of the things that has impressed me is the fact that Warner Bros. has managed to keep the whole cast together for so long. By the time Deathly Hallows wraps in 2011, the cast will have been together for over a decade. That's unprecedented.

Not having read the books, OotP was the first film to feel like I was getting the Reader's Digest version of the story.

Read the books. You'll feel differently.

I'm sure I would, but my point is that the first four films managed to SEEM as though there wasn't a lot missing.

There's was tons missing from both POA and GOF. IMO, COS actually did the best job of trimming the fat without leaving out something important.
There's a mugglenet interview with the actor who will play Regulus in HBP. Question: does Regulus appear in flashback s in HBP? I thought he's only referred to in the third person.

Yeah, there's alot missing from GOF, but most of it is stuff like Dobby and SPEW and Hagrid's Blast Ended Skrewts. It would have been nice to see it, but its not really necessary to the plot. POA is another matter, however, the decision to cut out the backstory of the Marauders was a mistake. A wizard's Patronus takes a particular shape and does so for a reason. Harry's Patronus takes the form of a stag because, James's animagus form was as a stag. The idea was that the four Marauders have returned to Hogwarts and that was never articulated in the movie.

And that's the most poignant aspect of the book. Cuaron gets so much praise for the his work directing the movie, but leaving that out is unforgivable to me.

OOTP for some reason is my least favorite film of the series. There was so much potential, but everything just seemed to be very bland.

TSS & GOF are the worst by far. I watched the former recently. Amateurish.

I still can't believe a director as good as Newell (I love 4 Weddings and a Funeral and Donnie Brasco) could have screwed that up so badly. It really is awful.

Mystery solved: he's only in one scene, in a photo in Slughorn's office.

Back to the Lexicon court case for a moment: the trial starts today, and JKR is scheduled to testify. Should be an interesting few days, maybe we'll even have a verdict by the end of the week.

It'll be an interesting case. The question is: what information is in the public sector?

Both Mugglenet and Leaky Cauldron have extensive coverage with links to various news sites. The thing that struck me so far is that JKR really based her attack on the Lexicon on its poor quality, essentially saying she felt a need to protect her readers from buying trash like this. Her motives may be noble, but not really relevant to copyright law. Whether it's trash or not is for the market to decide.
