Why don't you start a discussion, offer some more info and opinions?

My reggae listening extends well beyond just Bob Marley, though, without a doubt, Bob was the best thing ever to happen to the genre. I especially love "Exodus", "Iron Lion Zion", "I Know a Place" (on the One ''Love'' CD, never released previously) "War" and "Zimbabwe".

I've also got stuff by Culture, Black Uhuru, the Toots and Maytals, Lee Perry (that man was nuts; he used tape cleaning fluid as a narcotic) and numerous other Jamaican artists.

I dislike UB40, on the whole, to be honest.

good to hear some reactions...I read what I expected, lots of bob marley....yes he was a great reggae singer and permit it to be known internationally, but I don't really like the person himself, and what thanks the wailers too! that's great musicians...Now I would say that for example Peter Tosh (former singer of the wailers with bob and the last survivor:Bunny Wailer) was really more talented and still well known, but not as bob
AdmiralZaarin, Black Uhuru is the most powerful band that ever existed when Michael roze was the lead singer, and Sly and Robbie were at the riddim, they are the best bass and drums players in reggae, check out "live 84" to hear it!
I also love culture, burning spear, the meditations, ISRAEL VIBRATION, johnny clarke lee perry's productions, the congos and so many roots reggae band from that period (70's, most of those bands are still on tour all over the world today), modern reggae is just not as good....
I also recommand to everybody to go see reggar concert, always great! I saw hundreds of band since about 2000, and I'm going to see TOOTS and the maytals next week in my town for the second time, don't miss that, toots is just a SHOWMAN!!
For ub40 it's not reggae I would say it's pop music, the best reggae bands in england are steel pulse, and MISTY IN ROOTS, just great
I think this music is very rich with that african and american(blues and funk) origins...I wonder if african singers like alpha blondy and tiken jah fakoly are known in the us....

I love raggae, but I really don't know many names outside of Horace Andy, Marley, Peter Tosh and Eek-A-mouse.

Just about every Saturday morning, I've got the local radio show Positive Vibrations playing in my house or car. You can stream it here. Great stuff.

How does one pronounce Reggae?

Is the G a guh sound, or a juh sound? Is the A-E an aei or an ee?
