The Knowing late Saturday night. I fell asleep a few times. I thought it was pretty lame, which was the same feeling after I saw Contact. The premise and trailer was more eventful than the actual movie. However, when the solar flare hit earth and killed all living things was cool because most movies don't go with that type of ending. Typically movies have a way to avoid disaster and save the human race. Not this movie, so thumbs up on that.

Was that the new one, Sensei? With Nicholas Cage?

My last movie was Gran Torino. Actually better than I expected it to be.

Been watching a lot of Cowboy Bebop again. I am no anime fan but I love this show. I am always amazed by the various styles seamlessly meshed together and explored through out the series. Gonna move on to watch the movie too, which I still feel is underrated, though I will agree it wasn't as good as the series.

I finally got around to seeing Wolverine. Going in, my expectations were quite low. I was just praying it wouldn't be as god awful as Spidey 3. Wolverine was actually pretty good. Not GREAT, but pretty good--a fun, actiony, summer popcorn movie.

The Dark Knight. It sizzles in bluray and was as enjoyable as it has ever been.

Nosferatu

--The 1929 classic remains...creepy as hell. As far as vampire films go--this is one of the best. It's pretty fun to check this one out and then see "Shadow of the Vampire."

I also noticed that the films features a striped hyena (now extinct in Europe, but still spotted in Western Asia).

The version I saw had a couple of color filters added in like blues, reds, and a sepia tone. The original black and white version is far creepier in my opinion and thus, makes for a better film. Although, it was interesting seeing how the different color filters were meant to play to the mood of each scene.

Nosferatu is outstanding. That's probably one of my favorite films, let alone silent films, of all time.

I've only seen three silent films and clips of others:

The ones I've seen:

Nosferatu
Metropolis
Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari

The ones I haven't watched completely through:

Battle Ship Potomkin
Various Charlie Chaplin films

It's odd. I find Nosferatu overrated, even among silent films. Passion of Joan of Arc; now there's a great silent film.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I really enjoyed this despite some note worthy moments from the book missing from the film. I thought the kids have really come far with their acting, and it stands out in this one.
I watched recently Snow Cake, and Secret Window as well.

Yup, I'm another of the Half-Blood Prince folks here... but I have Revolutionary Road on DVD to watch tomorrow. I'm pretty excited, although I hear it's a little heavy-handed.

Elizabeth (1998)

Good, but it could be better.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)

A great movie

"The Cobweb" (1955) dir. Vincente Minelli, starring Richard Widmark, Lauren Bacall, Gloria Grahame, and Charles Boyer.

I recorded this off TCM because Minelli was the director. But I think this is one of weirdest Hollywood movies I've ever seen--it's about a fancy looney bin. Widmark's the head doc, Grahame's his wife, Bacall's the art director, and Boyer's the former head doc. And they quarrel--all movie long--over curtains. And I'm not kidding.

The best you can say is that Grahame is peerlessly sexy, and Minelli's art direction is always good. And that's it. Bacall's role is dull; Widmark is ye good liberal; Boyer is ye bad conservative. The loonies are occasionally entertaining, especially Oscar Levant. But considering the possibilities here, this movie is a definite disappointment.

I've always wanted to see this movie. It's also famous for its score. Rosenman, was it?
