Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen: I really like this movie. It has a lot of robot vs. robot action which was what I liked about the first one, there's just more of it in the second one.

Hulk Vs. animated films that Marvel released on DVD last year. Average PG-13 cartoons... Nothing real special about it.

DISNEY'S A CHRISTMAS CAROL, this morning.

I've never been enthusiastic about MoCap (POLAR EXPRESS, etc.), because no
matter how hard you work with it, the process tends to render, well, creepy.
This MoCap (now called Performance Capture), is much better than previous films,
but the quasi-dimensional lifelessness still delivers the creep factor.

That aside, this version of "Carol" is typical Jim Carrey, with lots of
twisting face and manic actions. I can't think of anything I hated about it,
but then again, besides the beautiful London cityscape work, nothing to back-up
all of Disney's uberhype.

Still, DACC is a much better movie than I thought it would be.

Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and The Chamber Of Secrets

I really like the HP movies. I especially like the music in these two, but then again it is John Williams, the movie music master. I was disappointed when he didn't do the music for the other HP movies.

Up next on my to watch list are the rest of the HP movies, M*A*S*H*, and The Italian Job

An Education - From director Lone Sherfig, "An Education" is a coming of age story set in early 1960s England about a 16-year-old British girl named Jenny (Carey Mulligan) who meets and begins dating an older man (Peter Sarsgaard). He comes with promises of fun and adventure, allowing her to escape her drab suburban existence, but things aren't all as they seem. I'll leave it at that. This film isn't playing in many cities, but if it's playing in yours, see it. Carey Mulligan just might be nominated for an Oscar for her performance.

Neil Young Trunk Show - Another collaboration between Neil Young and filmmaker Jonathan Demme, this is Neil at his heaviest. No man in his 60s should be able to or want to rock as half as hard as Neil Young can and does. The guy's my hero. This concert film was shot in Pennsylvania when Neil was touring in support of Chrome Dreams II. It features 6 rarely performed songs, including two personal favorites of mine, "Ambulance Blues" and "Mellow My Mind." Any and all Neil Young fans will absolutely adore this film.

The Exorcist (2000): The (so-called) Version You've Never Seen.

I've watched this "director's cut" multiple times, and I've seen the original version a dozen or more times over, but it had been long enough between viewings that I really got into it.

The way the story unfolds as a mystery is fascinating to watch, with the Iraq dig in the first 10-15 minutes being a distinct short film in and of itself that never fails to enthrall. I enjoy most of the restored scenes, especially the new doctor's visit early in the movie, which introduces Regan's condition in a more satisfying way than the original version's "You're gonna die up there" blind-side.

However, the insertion of new/recycled images of the demon in its various forms into scenes which patently do not need them is a bit upsetting to me, since it interferes with the movie's subtle build-up toward the inevitable explosion of terror. Kind of like the STAR WARS SEs, if I had my way I'd make a master version that combines restored and enhanced footage with the original, plain-jane, already-quite-brilliant footage. [SPOILER ahead} There is absolutely no need, IMO, to flash a picture of Karras' mother on the window curtains before he leaps out. It's quick and you miss it if you blink, but to purists like me who love the original and who notice these things, it's just silly.

The restored ending with Dyer and Kinderman starting a friendship is a bit of an anti-climax, but necessary in a way to show that, in contrast to some audience's parting thoughts, evil does not in fact triumph, and life does indeed go on as normal.

It's merely okay. Nothing truly special. It wants to be a quirky comedy but it doesn't have comedic timing.

Oh, that's too bad. I've been looking forward to it. Then again, taste being purely subjective, I'll probably give it a go anyway. It looks like a cross between a Wes Anderson movie and a Coen Bros. comedy. Even if the comedic timing isn't up to par, judging by the trailer it at least merits a viewing.
