The Last Samurai. Tom Cruise may be nuts, but he should have won an Acadenmy Award for this movie.

I watched the modern House of Wax. What can I say? It's a guilty pleasure, no matter how lame it may be.

Sweeney Todd: Was disappointing, but the ending was amazing.
Collateral: First time seeing this, one of the best films I've seen in a long time. Cruise's best, Mann's best, and Foxx's best.
Unbreakable: Still probably the best superhero movie ever made.

Beowulf (2007)
Great film. I'm not completely 100% sold on the films visual style. It's okay to animated monsters, environments, scenes that require CGI treatment and so forth. But to animate the whole film, including the actors is bold and perhaps not entirely a great thing to do. Nevertheless, on almost every other aspect the film delivers. Great acting (especially Ray Winstone and Robin Wright Penn), interesting story and sometimes a perfect dialog, a very nice score and cool action.

Last movie in the cinema: Iron Man. A good film, worth the money I payed but by no means great.
TV: American Psycho. Nothing like seeing Christian Bale run around naked with a chainsaw.

Due South, Season One (1994 - 1995) - Paul Haggis
This one, like Green Acres, jumps the shark in reverse. It's a witty and funny show from the beginning, but then at exactly the half point of the first season, our four main detective characters pause during a stakeout to play a game of cards and talk about love; at the close, Ray dozes while Fraser spins, his back to the camera, a bleak tale of lost love from his past. And suddenly, a good television show becomes a great work of art. From there on, they reach higher and farther than anyone has a right to expect. Hawk and Handsaw is a brilliant and amazing episode and The Deal I still remember from watching as a teenager; it blew my brains out and did so again. It's dark, nihlistic and consistently surprising in its hopelessness. By the time Victoria's Secret, the two part (almost) finale rolls around, they're ready to do something utterly ugly and utterly dark and as noir as any television series has ever gotten. And with the final episode of the season, we recover with a lighthearted and brilliant spoof on Rear Window. Amazing stuff; I eagerly await Season Two.
A History of Violence (2005) - David Cronenberg
Viggo is absolutely brilliant. Harris and Hurt both give stellar supporting performances and some praise must be saved for the frothing psycho killers who open the movie, a pair of unimportant characters treated with the dignity often reserved for mains. Cronenberg's back in fine form here and I look forward to Eastern Promises. This one was a masterwork. "I guess all kids try to do that," maybe the funniest film line of 2005.

In order from least recently seen to most recently seen:
DECEPTION
Maybe better than I thought it would be, but not very surprising and not extremely entertaining.
2 1/2 stars out of 4 stars.
IRON MAN
Extremely well made, great characters, great cast and great performances. A lot of fun. (Actually, I just saw it a second time within the past five plus hours and I got me a ticket for the opening midnight showing of INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL).
At least 3 1/2 stars out of 4 stars.
WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS
Good, not great. Predictable.
2 1/2 stars out of 4 stars.

Chaos with Jason Statham, Wesley Snipes and Ryan Phillippe. Weird direct to DVD movie, it wasn't necessarily bad but it wasn't necessarily good either, it was just kind of floating in the middle of mediocrity. If anything though it was boring, nobody looked like they cared, everyone just looked like they were filling a contract with Lionsgate. It's whatever and I wouldn't recommend it, it has a super easy twist and the dp seemed like a wannabe Wally Pfister.
