Hell, Claire could be unbreakable just like Bruce Willis...she survived her house exploding with nary a scratch...so who friggin' knows... tongue

EDIT: And I agree with you about Sawyer...two full seasons without him would be a pretty big void. If they kill him off, I could see it happening at the end of season five...not the end of this season. But, like you said, attempting guesses at where this show'll go is pretty much a big waste of time.

Re-watching the episode again...and whatever happened to Ben's "Welcome to the war!" line to Locke from the commercial? Seems to have been cut.

The one thing that leads me to think that Sawyer will probably survive the season and into the series finale is because one would think that the triangle between him, Jack and Kate has to be resolved in some final way (unless, of course, that happens in this season's finale). Id assume that he would be one of the reasons that Kate would want to return to the island (even though the Future Kate we've seen so far doesnt seem to want anything to do with the island).

Also, if he does survive, I could definitely see Sawyer becoming more of a leader, kind of like Han in RotJ, the scoundrel thrown in as an unlikely savior for the castaways. I think his growing affection for both Hurley and Claire are evidence of this.

Yah Darlton have said numerous times that the triangle has a whole lot more to go and also I think in an interview in season 1 they said something that sort of let slip that none of the big 4 (Jack Kate Sawyer and Locke) would die until the final season

Hmmm maybe Sawyer becomes the leader of the beach camp after the O6 leave the island.

They have been building Sawyer as a leader since Season three, I could totally see this happening.

Seems to make sense, since he is one of the only main characters besides Locke who doesn't get off the island.

Did I hear right that Charles Widmore was the previous 'protector' of the island before Ben took over and shoved him out? I didn't see that one coming.

No. Widmore said the island belonged to him before Ben took it from him, which is just saying that Dharma/Hanso was on Widmore's side of the war, and the Others/Hostiles were on the other, which we basically knew already. Dharma controlled the island for Widmore, then Ben took it from him during the purge. Not really anything new, there.

I dont know, I think Sawyer's decision to go back to the beach makes sense. He's obviously looking to protect Claire and the baby so itd be best to get away from Ben, plus they have numbers at the beach and (presumably) more weapons, as well as people to use them.

I think that all makes sense. I think that from a plot perspective, the most important things about Sawyer's group going back to the beach are that Team Jack and Team Locke can now regroup and compare notes about the freighter folk, and it saves the inevitable and much anticipated (at least by me) visit of Miles to the cabin.

A friend of mine on another site just listened to the latest Darlton podcast, and they said that Ben can indeed leap, but only to specific places, and from there he has to walk or find his own means of transportation.

(not really a spoiler, BTW, just figured Id highlight just to be safe)

Just interested why when Desmond tried to escape with the boat it led him back, but when Ben used it, he escaped.
Also not a spoiler but since DVader highlighted his, I will mine.

Because Ben knew in which direction to sail the boat. See his instructions to Michael in the season 2 finale.

Actually, see the part in DVader316's post about how it was confirmed that Ben teleported to Tunisia. He was lying about the boat.

So, given that Ben waking up in Tunisia looks exactly like Jack waking up in the jungle at the very beginning of the series, was he really on the plane when it crashed? Were any of them?

Found an image of the logo on Ben's parka here. It's pretty clearly an Orchid

Ben waking up in the desert was reminiscent of Jack waking up in the jungle , but we also see ben throw up which would indicate teleportation, altho i imagine the point he teleported away from is many episodes in the future .

it is odd the way we see jack in ep. 1 tho , of course I've always wondered how any of them survived that crash , in S2 we see the crash from Otherville and the plane is still high up when it breaks apart, it would then drop like a stone , I can't remember now - have we seen the crash in more detail ? was it cushioned by crashing thru the trees ?

No, curiously enough we have never seen the impact of the middle section, weve seen the mid air breakup from several points of view but then the next thing weve seen is after it crashed with jack in the pilot. This is all pretty fresh in my head because 3 months ago I had never watched a full episode and I've now seen them all.

We do see the tail section crash into the water, but not the cabin section.
