Because she wants to be the one to raise Aaron.
I think there's more to it than that. Something is clearly up with Claire, and we know Aaron was not to be 'raised by another'. I'm sure we'll see in the finale why Kate is lying about Aaron being her child, and I doubt very much it is anything devious on Kate's part.

I think Kate claimed Aaron to be her child so there wouldn't be any complicated questions about who the real mother was.

But if it was because of that they could have just as easily said Claire was one of the other two who survived the crash but died in childbirth. Theres definitely something else at hand here. I really hope Claire shows up in the finale.

He did view the body at an Australian morgue (Season 1 flashback), but considering all of the things that happened on the Island and Christian Shepherd's weird appearances; I could see why he wouldn't think he was dead any longer.

Do we know for certain that the O6 are rescued early in 2005 ? maybe it's a few months later , we're missing something . (god , how many times have I said that in regards to Lost !)
