This is the place to discuss the X-files. All the great nine seasons, "Fight the Future" and the new movie.

The X-files is in short a show about two FBI-agents; Mulder and Scully. They work on the X-files, investigating supernatural phenomena. Scully is a medical doctor, the sceptic, originally signed to the X-files to more or less debunk Mulders work.
Mulder "wants to believe" and his biggest motivation for his work on the X-files is his sister, who he belives was abducted by aliens when just a child.

I consider myself to be an X-phile (hardcore fan, that is) and a scullyist.

The first thing I would like to know is what people think about the movie to be. What have you heard, what are you're thoughts, latest news and so on.

Happy posting!

Until this weekend, the only exposure that I've had for this show is a couple of the spin off books, which really peaked my interest, but the price of the DVD sets, at about 120 each, is way to much.
This weekend, I saw an episode where a guy was going around killing people who were bleeding from their hands and feet. It was interesting, and I think I'm going to start borrowing the series from a professor here at school who's interested in the same things...

I very much love X-Files! But I hadn't heard about a new movie! Apparently I've been out of the loop for some time. I don't consider myself an X-phile (cuz I don't know as much as I should) but I watched that show religiously on TV and try to catch the re-runs whenever I can.

Can you tell me more about this new movie??

Agree, and actually the same sets will soon be available for about half the price. I think season 1-3 already is and the other ones are coming soon. happy

Which books have you read? I've only read "Antibodies" by Kevin J. Anderson. It's a little tricky getting them in Sweden, but I know Skin and Ground Zero also is available. Getting them as soon as possible.

I don't remember titles, but there was one where a guy can stretch and fit through tiny holes. The other involve glow in the dark bugs that ate people.

As an 11-14 year old, these books were really cool.

My sister, JediPrincess_Annelie, knows more about it than I do. I'll ask her to pop in. But what I do know is that papers are pretty much signed, everybody is very enthusiastic and I think they'll start shooting it pretty soon.
There are rumors that it will be a standalone movie, but I don't really get how they can do that with all that has happened. Things will have to be delt with. It is also said that it will have the same feeling as the episode HOME.

Oh, I think there's an X-phile in there.

A question relating to the structure of the series- are there any overarching plots, or is it all just random encounters?

That is interesting, about the movie "standing alone". But s'long as David and Gillian are in it, I'm happy... I could live with seeing The Lonegunmen as well happy

Anyone watch that TV show? The Lonegunmen? I saw a few episodes but never could get real into it.. apparently I wasn't the only one since the show didn't last too long.

They're are two kinds of episodes; Monster of the Week and Mythology.
The "Monster of the week" episodes is basically standalones, with a case that our favourite agents investigates. Once or twice they even solve the case...... wink
The "Mythology" episodes has a plot that evolves throughout the entire show. Basically they're about an alien conspiracy, Mulders sister and his quest.

About the Lone Gunmen. Loved that show! Too bad it didn't last. The first episode was kinda' boring, but then it just got better and better.

oh I see! I think that could be pretty interesting. A two hour episode of the X-Files in dolby surround sound and movie music, sounds good to me happy

I think Jedi_Emilie is just being modest - I don't really know much more about the X-Files Movie No 2 than she does. (I'm the sister she mentioned, BTW.) David Duchovny is in, Gillian Anderson is in, Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz have been working on the story for some time. Negotiations with FOX are in progress but appearantly taking a bit more time than average because of special sequel-rules-thingies (they're kinda vague about that last part). The Writers are adamant that the movie will indeed be standalone and not mythological.

Neither Robert Patrick nor Annabeth Gish has as of yet been approached by the powers that be about the movie - it's starting to look like they won't be in it (does anyone have more information on this?).

JediTrilobite - I've read those two books too! They're based on episodes from the first season (Squeze and Darkness Falls), and, yes, they are most certainly intended for 11 year-olds. There are however spin off-books for "grown-ups" as well - really good ones at that happy !

I never liked Doggett or Reyes that much they were no where near as cool as Mulder and Scully! I hope there is a second movie.

It's a great show, though I sometimes think they should have ended it the season after the movie. The show hit on all the best conspiracy theories and ideas.

Anyone remember the werewolf episode? I thought that one was great.

I agree here. They lacked the chemistry that made the show great. The way Mulder and Scully worked together was the best part of the show. Without them the show was stale imho.
