Next: "Fracture" - "Another uninteresting one-word title that does nothing to convey the plot or tone of the film. In reality, this is a legal thriller about a young D.A. unsuccessfully trying to prosecute a guilty-as-sin murderer (Anthony Hopkins). Would you be able to figure that out from the word "fracture?" The title does at least have a thematic connection to the story, but it's the kind of thing that some people get and others need to have explained to them. A better title: "Next Stop, Death Row""
How about "Guilty As Sin"?

great movie, and a great title. The title doesn't seem great until you watch the movie though.

The problem is, who's going to give it a chance based on that title?

Great movie, one of the best of '07 (shame it came out so early in the year, Hopkins should be up for an Oscar nom). Have no problem with the title.

The problem is, it sounds like torture porn. Or maybe a documentary on an ER.

Well, Speed sounded like a documentary on the harmful effects of amphetamines in young adults.

"Speed" had a good trailer, though.

Next: "Vacancy" - "Yet another one-worder, this one for a horror picture about a motel where unsuspecting visitors are forced to make their own in-room snuff film. The title itself isn't offensive, but it doesn't convey the gruesome nature of the plot either. A better title: "Check Out Time"
My vote: "Wake Up Call"

I don't think a horror movie like this needs to convey "horror film" based solely on an out-of-context title. These things are so over-marketed (Vacancy certainly wasn't an exception), and the ads always make it very clear what it is. As for when people have forgotten the commercial campaign - well these movies aren't exactly built for longevity.
Wait a minute... Vancancy, Zaz?

Next: TMNT - "It stands for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," but conventional wisdom says things aren't hip unless you can abbreviate them. Hence, Kentucky Fried Chicken has morphed into simply KFC. When you have a perfectly descriptive title already, why shorten it? A better title: "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"
Even better title: "TWBOT" ("This Was Better on Television")

Can I nominate the new "Rambo" for this thread, if it hasn't come up already? It makes what was already the series with the probably the most inconsistent titling system of all time even sillier. The series will now go:
First Blood
Rambo: First Blood Part 2
Rambo III
Rambo
I propose for maximum confusion value they call the next one "Rambo VI: First Blood Part 1"

I think part of this too, came from trying to differentiate itself from the first movie, also called, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Calling that movie by the full name, and the recent by TMNT is an easy way keep straight which movie you're talking about.
