I'm a sucker for the tentpole pics, no matter how bad the reviews.

This movie was not half bad. Charlize Theron just looks so damn good in close up. I'd see it again just for that.

Hancock has serious problems in its plot structure. It comes off as pretty nonsensical. But the film's first half was very good. It's worth watching once, but it's unfortunate that it couldn't live up fully to it's fresh take on the superhero genre.

I think the idea of a sort of drunken bum super'hero' who just wreaks havoc instead of helping people is absolutely fantastic. But apparently he comes to terms with how great power comes with great responsibility or some crap and I saw that one already, about fifty thousand times.

A shame to waste such a great idea. Oh, well.

This is pretty much the impression I'm getting as well. It's strange how the marketing campaign seemed to change halfway through from "throwing whales" to "generic hero arc". And I was really looking forward to what appeared to be a Captain movie.

Agreed. If the trailer is any indication, Pan's Labyrith won GDT alot of creative freedom.

I haven't seen the first one, would that preclude seeing the second and understanding what's going on?

Probably not too bad. This one looks like it's starting a whole new storyline, instead of continuing where the first left off.
