Last Year we had LOST, Desparate Housewives, etc. so which TV Series do you think will be this year's hits?

If I had to guess, probably Supernatural or Surface, but I'd like to see how the ratings go. I doubt that any of them will be as big of an innovator like LOST and Housewives was.

If we're talking ratings then my guess would be Invasion. Come up right after Lost is almost a slam dunk for success.

I dont think there is going to be any big new shows this year. I think next year will bring us some new popular ones, right after everyone gets bored with these ones.

Its kind of early to tell, but if I had to pick a breakout hit Id say it will either be Invasion or Threshold (although the latter has their work cut out for them in a Friday night death slot). Surface will go by the wayside pretty quickly, IMO, and may very well be one of the first new shows of the season to be cancelled.

Oh, and I give Ghost Whisperer less than a month before it gets the axe. Jennifer Love Hewitt is like King Midas in reverse. Everything she touches turns to ****.

Well, I got 7 minutes into E-Ring before changing the channel, Reunion is a That 80's Show version of The OC and Head Cases is interesting but takes about 8 minutes to set up a joke that is mildly funny.

So in short, there isn't a new show that has been able to hold my interest for any sustained period of time. So help me, if I see one more new legal crime show, forensic crime show, supernatural crime show, or anything of the like.... frustrated

I still say Arrested Development has the best shot at becoming more than a cult hit.

I agree. Its disgusting how many formulaic CSI-type shows that are on the schedule for this season.

Ah, well, at least we can take comfort in the fact that maybe one out of four of them will last the entire season.

I gotta tell ya....My Name is Earl is pretty damn funny. That could be the big hit and it had big numbers this past tuesday. The humor is kinda like Denis Leary's "The Job" and that fantastic no holds barred comedy was canceled. soo..I would check it out if you haven't seen it..

Well I'm just going to put what I put in your YJCC thread and add some replies to some other posts.

I think that Invasion has a pretty good shot.

Prison Break seems to be doing well.

Everyone Hates Chris has gotten huge buzz. That is going to be UPN's first real hit I think.

Since it was a mid-season replacement last year I expect big things for Grey's Anatomy this season.

Thats about it though. I don't think you'll really see anything like Lost and DH were they pretty much re-write what people watch. Both will continue strong this year.

I foresee a lot of mid-season replacements this year. Hopefully we'll get a couple of gems out of that like last year's Grey's Anatomy.

Reunion is kind of interesting. The idea behind it seems better then the execution though. Its kind of supposed to be 24 in reverse. Its starting in the 80s now but each episode is another year so when all 20 are done it will take us to the current year with the revelation of "who done it". Like I said though the idea is better then the execution and I turned it off 10 minutes in.

Surface did pretty well. Don't know about Supernatural though. To tell you the truth though I'd be surprised if it put up any real big numbers. Its a decent show but even the best shows on WB usually end up dying *coughjack&bobbycough*.

From Sci-Fi.com:
NBC's SF series Surface drew an impressive 10.9 million viewers in its Sept. 19 debut, TV Guide Online reported.

I think that Threshold is going to be the early looser. Invasion topped the list in terms of what new shows were charging for ad time and they were selling it. Threshold was at the opposite end of the list and even with the lowest price they were having trouble moving it. As for Surface see above.

But yeah. Ghost Whisperer is done for.

I don't think there will be any big hits this year, because last year the hits were innovative. We hadn't seen a show like Desperate Housewives in a few years, and hadn't seen a show like Lost in...well...I can't think of a time we HAVE seen a show like Lost.

I don't believe shows that imitate are capable of becoming a truly great/revolutionary show like Lost and Deserate Housewives were last season.

Dont be fooled by the ratings of certain shows their first week on the air. Alot of new shows debut well but then there's a big drop in subsequent weeks, so it'll be interesting to see how shows like Surface and My Name is Earl do in the long term (and speaking of My Name is Earl, I watched it the other night and was dissapointed with it. I didnt think it came close to all of the hype and I think I laughed once the whole half hour. I will give it another few episodes before I give up on it, though).

Ultimately I think that Vaderbait is right, though. Shows like Lost and Desperate Housewives are phenomenoms that dont come along all that often, let alone two seasons in a row. It usually takes years for shows to build audiences like both shows have gotten in their first seasons alone. Something tells me none of these new shows will even come close to the kind of numbers they get, at least not right away.

Sorry about posting twice in a row, but I just missed my editing time. blush

Anyway, as far as breakout hits go, there may be one in Everbody Hates Chris. Early word on the overnight ratings say that it absolutely destroyed Joey, an even more impressive feat when you consider that UPN isnt available in nearly as many markets as NBC is.

Yep, everything that I've seen points to Everbody Hates Chris being huge. UPN is actually going to have a hit on their hands. They've gotten close with Veronica Mars but that was more culty. EHC seems to have wide appeal.
