I guess saying it totally lacks merit is a little harsh. It's just...average, like most shows on TV these days. There's almost nothing original about it, but you're right, it's not terrible.

I know Night Stalker is a remake but I want to see if it's any good.

I've only seen Surface and Supernatural, and they both have a lot of potential. The only problem that I've had with both is that I'm not as interested in the characters as I should be. I do think that they'll improve a little.

Arrested Development though, I really want to see those new episodes, that's a great show.

Battlestar isn't really the biggest hit of the year, but it's getting really interesting, and they'll be taking it to some interesting places over the rest of the season. Hopefully SG-1 will do the same, I haven't been as enthused about the new stuff this year.

Veronica Mars--It's still witty and clever, and now it's got Charisma Carpenter to boot. UPN has some hits on its hands this year.

Whedon too. At least in an upcoming episode.

I didn't quote your whole post but I wanted to echo the same sentiment. We've gotten a lot from Buffy alums this year. To bad it wasn't more Buffy.

I watched a little of "Everybody Hates Chris" and suddenly remembered why I stopped watching sitcoms...

So did I, that's why I watched. I lasted two minutes, max.

Well, we're a couple of weeks into the new season. Are there any hit shows among the new series?

I tried a few, but I had difficulty finding them.

One of the lawyer shows has already bit the dust, I forget the name of it.

Yea, that show would be Head Cases, which had the dubious honor of being the first cancellation of the new season. Sex, Lies and Secrets on UPN has also been cancelled, as has Inconceivable on NBC.

As far as breakout hits, at this point the early winner looks to be Prison Break, and - surprise, surprise - The Ghost Whisperer, which is performing solidly for CBS on Fridays and has received a full season order (as has Surface). And even though I gave up on it, Invasion is doing better than anything ABC has had in that timeslot in years, even though it loses more than half of the lead-in audience from Lost and the ratings are slipping each week.

Ghost Whisper was a surprise. Ranks right up there with Joan of Archadia in terms of "Whaaaaat" factor.

Other then that, no big surprises. Everything that did good continues to do good and the "sure hits" from each of the major networks are doing well in their own right.

That series with Geena Davis as president, which I expected to do a quick dive is pretty successful, though. Haven't seen it, however.

Good point about Commander in Chief, Zaz. Id completely forgotten about it in my previous post. And I agree, the show's success is a huge surprise, especially since its the highest rated new show of the season to date.

Actaully the ratings were increasing until it faced the world series and no new Lost.

I think thats heavly qualified. IIRC it was the highest rated new show on Tuesdays at 8:00.

The popularity of sitcoms are falling short. You can think reality TV for that. There was a time that reality TV was hogging up the ratings, however, all good things come to an end. Reality TV not doing so well, the sitcoms not doing so well because the TV networks had to come up with a strategy for competition and revitalized the popularity of the 1 hour series. And now the 1 hour series are getting all the attention on television.

Though, I'm actually beginning to enjoy the Freddie Prinze Jr. Show. grin Not a bad cast, but the acting can be a bit raw. In retrospect, not much out there anymore in the realm of sitcoms. Except for Everybody Loves Raymond...that's nothing new.
