Gees, Tina Fey, you're not a good actor please dont act anymore, stick to writing. 30 Rock sounds boring.

I'd hate to go fishing with her, she'd probably put a hook in her mouth and cast herself!

Yea, Tina Fey is so overrated. The only good thing about her show getting picked up is that she will most likely end up having to leave SNL as a result, so maybe they'll finally get a head writer in there who can actually write comedy (although that doesnt solve the problem of the majority of the cast, too).

Also, in unrelated news, Veronica Mars is rumored to be getting a 13 episode pick-up from the new CW network, and 7th Heaven may not be dead after all. The CW has strong interest in bringing it back for another season, or in spinoff form at the very least.

CW is indeed picking up VM. Hadn't heard about them only going for an intital 13 but I don't see that being a problem because I think the show will be their new flagship (or at least one of them).

Yea, there have been rumors of a Gilmore Girls/Veronica Mars block since news of the merger began.

Also, in more news from the upfronts, ABC has announced that they will air Lost in two uninterrupted blocks next season ala 24 and Prison Break. The plan is to start the season in September and air seven or eight episodes, then take a hiatus and bring the show back in either January or February and air the remainder of the season non-stop through May (which should be roughly 16 episodes if the follow the same 24-episode season that they have for seasons 1 and 2).

Either I personally think that its great news and a brilliant move by ABC. The huge gaps in between episodes the past two seasons were absolutely ridiculous.

Yea, it sounds intriguing, although I dont know how well a dramatic series about the behind the scenes action of a comedy show is going to translate.

Here's my predictions for shows that'll make a splash:

Heroes, NBC, Monday Nights - This is the show that I'm rooting for the most. According to the network, it's about the lives of ordinary people who find that they have special powers. Follows a professor in genetics who discovers that there are people in the world with special abilities. Looks to have a solid ensemble cast, with some interesting characters. True, it doesn't sound the most original (X-Men anyone?) but in the wake of X-Men: The Last Stand and Superman Returns coming out this summer, as well as the highly publisized Civil War crossover arc that marvel just just launched, I suspect that there'll be enough interest here that'll make this really go. Plus, it's up against Supernanny and Two and a Half Men, so it doesn't have too much competition.

Kiddnapped, NBC, Tuesday Nights- As the title says, it's about a kidnapping of a son in a wealthy family, and multiple parties are suspect. Looks a bit like a Prison Break clone, and NBC has a bad track record with that already, with Heist being cancelled after four episodes, but this looks like it'll focus on a number of characters. It's up against the Unit by CBS, but it's possible that this'll get good ratings.

Smith, CBS, Tuesday Nights - This one's a Heist drama, following a group of professional theives, with the FBI closing in on them, with the main character holding out for another heist or two before retiring. Looks like it'll be really interesting, and I really like heist things. Only problem goes back to NBC's Heist, which tanked after four episodes. Hopefully, this one will do better. It's up against Law and Order and Boston Legal.

Jericho. CBS, Wednsday Nights - This one also looks to be incredibly interesting, abit appearing to be a bit of a LOST clone. A small town in Kansas sees a nuclear explosion on the horizon, and think that they're the last ones in the US, and things start to fall apart. It's got the potential for some interesting storytelling. It's up against a bunch of new shows, and before LOST, so it might get the right audience.

The Nine, ABC, Wednsday Nights - Coming right after LOST, the Nine is also a sort of heist show (what's with these this year?) but we'll see things from the hostage's point of view, and only ten minutes at a time. People will die, and it's mainly about the lives of the people right afterwards. Looks interesting, but I don't see this lasting plotwise more than a season or two.

Six Degrees, ABC, Thursday Nights- This is coming from the people who brought us LOST and Alias, at least on the Executive Producer billet with Bryan Burk and JJ Abrams. Theoretically, anyone on the globe is in connection with everyone through a chain of six people. This one's about six people and how their lives intertwine. I like the consept, and it's coming right after Grey's Anatomy, which'll give it a boost.

Brothers & Sisters, ABC, Sunday Nights - This one's coming right after Desperate Housewives, this one's about a family, gathered for a birthday, and something's going to move their lives in a dramatic turn. Eh, not my cup of tea, but it's right after DHW, which can't hurt it.

Euraka, SciFi - Coming sometime this summer, it's about a town full of geniuses, a kid who vanishes, and a cop who's trying to piece together the mystery. SciFi's been getting really good with their stories, and I suspect that if this takes off, it could for for a couple seasons.

Shows that Will continue to do well:

Grey's Anatomy, ABC, Thursday Nights- I suspect that this show'll do well again, although it's going up against CSI, which is a weird movement.

LOST, ABC, Wednsday Nights - Everyone knows about LOST, and after the season finale this season, I suspect that we'll have another solid season by this show.

Prison Break, Fox- Already upped for another season, now that they've broken out, more to run away from. Great first season, should be an interesting second season.

House, MD, Fox- It's House. Can I say anything more? Hopefully more sarcasm and hilarious quotes.

Battlestar Galactica, SciFi, Friday Nights - Coming after a long hietus over the summer in October, we're picking up the pieces after a Cylon Occupation. This show's dynamite, and I think that it'll only get better.

CSI, CBS, various times, CSI is a powerhouse, it's not going to run out any time in the next couple years.

The Unit, CBS, Tuesday Nights - Midseason show from last season about a group of Army Rangers. Looks to be doing much better than Over There, which got poor ratings and a lot of critisism from actual soldiers.

Splinter Cell - I've heard this one's going to continue. Interesting premise, and really relevant in this day and age.

Veronica Mars, CW - Upped for a third season, looks like it'll still be going well after Season 2.

Supernatural CW - Upped for a second season. Good thing, because they can start telling some good stories now.

Other shows that might make it:

Daybreak, ABC Unknown time - A cop is framed and is experiencing it over and over again. Interesting premise.

Help Me Help You, ABC, 30 minutes, Tuesday - About a really messed up group of people and a crazy leader. Sounds interesting and comedy about people trying to get better is always interesting.

Let's Rob, ABC, Tuesday, Guy never has enough money, but he gets the idea to do a heist, and gets some of his friends together, who've never stolen anything, and they try and rob Mick Jagger's apartment in NYC. This just sounds funny. Plus - Mick Jagger will make appearances.

The Black Donnellys, NBC - A crime drama from the people who did Crash, coming in 2007, about 4 irish, working class brothers and organized crime in NYC. Looks to be interesting.

Raines - A sort of police noir starring Jeff Goldblum who can talk to dead people. Original, not really, but it sounds interesting.

Andy Barker, PI, NBC, guy is mistaken for a PI when his business fails to take off, starring one of the actors from Arrested Deveploment, and it's a comedy. Might be interesting.

Figured Id dust this thread off since we're getting close to the new fall season, and just like last year, there are ALOT of new shows debuting on all of the major networks. Some of them look promising, like The Nine, Daybreak and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, while others like Brothers and Sisters, Jericho and Heroes will probably be gone before November sweeps.

So, what do shows do you think will succeed or ultimately get axed ? Every year more than half of the new shows debuting are cancelled and dont receive a second season order. It'll be interesting (and surprising, Im sure) to see which shows breakthrough and which shows manage to simply survive by the skin of their teeth, especially if last season is any indication. Hell, all one has to do is look through this thread from the beginning to what Im talking about.

Dynamite doesn't even begin to describe this show. BSG is ****ing BRILLIANT.

I saw part of an episode for this show before work today and it wasn't bad. I may have to remember this one.

It might be too pleased with itself, because that's the usual complaint. But a good pilot; I enjoyed it.

Yea, the pilot was pretty good, but ultimately it may be too clever for its own good. Ill give it a few episodes before I decided to stick with it or jump ship, though.

So, did anybody else see Smith last night ? I actually really liked it. On the surface it seems like your basic caper show but the characters seem like theyre going to be really fleshed out as the show goes on, plus its got Ray Liotta, and that certainly doesnt hurt.
