Hahaha, I remember now. Well in that case, then no, Herge got the setting quite wrong. They are flying to Sydney, right? Then where on earth are they? The geography doesn't fit. They would have to land within the first 30 mins of flight or else they'd be over mainland Australia.

The plot was odd, but I still liked "Flight 714". I'd like to try to get the last one, too.

Finally read "The Calculus Affair", which I enjoyed. Great start, and the brolly jokes were pretty funny.

Yeah, as I said, it's one of my favourites. It's a very serious entry into the canon, though.

I have the first nine volumes (in three sets), and have read all of them except the last three and the unfinished one. But I have only read a french version of the congo issue.

I've read and watched all of them. Slightly more of an Asterix fan, but both are classic. I was into this religiously when i was like age 7 to 12

Of TinTin? Yes, it was a hugely popular cartoon all over Europe. It was made in 91 i think, and its reruns even aired upto recently

It was actually excellently made, and was largely faithful to the comics, with sligh differences for times sake.
I see Amazon.com has them on DVD. Its seriously worth getting, one of the best cartoons of all time.

As for Asterix, the animated stuff sucks.

I would love to see the animated version, I can't ever remember it, even on television. Are they in French?

Er i guess originally they were in French, as it was a French & Canadian production
But the English actors were amazing. I remember I also got some TinTin Audio Books out of the library, BBC productions i think, but i hated them because i was used to the great quality from the animated series. Haddock, the brothers, et al were really funny. Snowy too. It kept all of Herge's spirit in tact.

There was also an animated movie in the 70s i think.

I didnt like this much. It was later published as a comic, and its not very Tintin. Herge didnt even write the script.
Also because this is before the animated series, the voice cast are no way as good as the 90s series cast.

Were there any Tintin issues that weren't released in English? I don't recall reading Land of the Soviets/Congo, or the Unicorn one.

No they are available, although sometimes rare. I had to track down Soviets for a few years (this is pre internet, and as a child when everything is limited to local book shops and librarys)

You know all this talk about Tintin make me want to read those comics again. I haven't properly read them in years.

Yeah i went to the shop 10 years ago...

Yeah i might give them a read too now

Our local library has every one, except the last unfinished one. The Soviets one was a hardcover.

Have you read Asterix yet?
I used to find it funnier than Tintin
The comic is still made, they have a new one every few years or so.

I have the DVD box set of the Tintin animation. Good stuff, although I still find it odd that all references to Haddock's alcoholism have been removed. It was also definitely originally in French as all the writing is in French.
