RE: The Adventures of Tintin
The local library system has all the Tintin books in English and Chinese. It also has the movies, but only in French.

RE: The Adventures of Tintin
There have been quite a few film versions of Tintin, both animated and live action.
I've seen all of the animated versions. A few of the stories were filmed in the 60s or 70s and were not good quality - I definitely remember Crab with the Golden Claws. Then long films were made of the Prisoners of the Sun and (I think, might be wrong here) the Calculus Affair, around the same time as the Lake of Sharks.
In the 1990s Ellipse made most of the stories (except Congo and Soviets) for Canadian television. They are very faithful to Herge's originals. However, they are not perfect. Some (like me) find Tintin's voice a bit mannered (like the blond guy in Scooby Doo). The longer stories work best, some of the shorter stories are cut a lot to fit into 25mins. Also, rather annoyingly, Ellipse shied away from cliffhangers so that each episode has an ending -- this is rather forced in stories like the Unicorn books which are split up over 4 episodes. Nevertheless, these are good versions and will probably never be matched.
A couple of live action films were made in French many years ago, based on original stories. Steven Spielberg is said to have the rights to a live action movie.

Yes, has anyone seen 'Tintin and the Golden Fleece' (I think that is what it is called). I have it on tape. I enjoyed it very much. It's an old French live action film.

There have been some live action and a couple of 'puppet' movies.
I've seen a couple of the animated series eps, tried to get them on video through the library not long ago and couldn't.
I'd love to see Spielberg do the live action movie (maybe even, *gasp*, a franchise), but that rumor has been around for
years
.

Actually, Spielberg seems like a good choice.
Who would you cast as Captain Haddock?

Anyone who can cry out the words
blistering barnacles
with many other added words starting with
b
and actually mean it.
Actually, I couldn't really think of someone off the top of my head. I would be very bad caster anyway.
A Tintin thread! Good stuff!
I am a massive fan of Tintin. When I was younger,
Tintin
and
Asterix
used to be two of my favourite words (for those that don't know,
Asterix & Obelix
is another comic book). Love it.
I hear mention of the animated series... I've only ever seen a couple. And only really remember one of them, it being
Tintin in Tibet
. I think it was very well done.
I've never heard of this Spielberg feature-film. Now that would be cool!

Ah, nice! For some reason, in my head I have an image of a never-ending receipt being found in your wallet....

Fun fact, did you know the indians in Tintin and the Picaros are speaking the Flemish dialect from Brussels?

Maybe John Rhys Davies for Haddock? Not completely right, but who could be?
