I looked it up just after you mentioned it. Very cool, I'm certainly stopping first chance I can get.

Tintin was my first love. love

Just fantastic. Me and Rogue managed to fill up about 10 pages worth of thread on it somewhere else, I don't see why we couldn't do the same here . . .

Trilobite, I have the DVD set. They are very good, although strangely all references to the Captain's alcoholism seems to have been removed. I have also been to the Tintin shop in Convent Garden recently and bought myself a set of small Tintin figures that now adorn my desk. grin

I was just over at the Covent Garden shop, loved it. Picked up the DVD set, and spent a good amount of time trying to find a player for it, and just found one. I'm watching the on in America, and loving it. Great animation, and voice work, although Snowy isn't quite what I expected.

I loved Tintin when I was younger. My best friend and I managed to get them all between us. I saw a few episodes when it was on Nickelodeon, though the only ones I remember were the Moon episode adaptions. My personal favorite was the one with the ancient astrinauts, "Flight 719" I think.

Were there any Tintin issues that weren't released in English? I don't recall reading Land of the Soviets/Congo, or the Unicorn one.

Also, I don't know if it's true or not but I remember reading that Herge veered a lot to the right in the 30s/40s as a result of the German occupation of Belgium, not wanting to draw negative attention to himself.

I love these books!

My favs have to be the Red Sea Sharks, The Castafiore Emerald, and Tintin and the Picaros.

Started reading them at 5, still read them, more than 10 years later.

Milou is a bit different in the cartoon series as you can't 'hear' him think which removes a part of the comedy IMO.

I recently reread Tintin in Tibet. I enjoyed it even though the translation used old Dutch or Flemish(no idea which one) slang. Can be quite annoying.

BTW Trilobite you are aware about the different DVD regions in the world and different type of TVs used in USA (NTSC) and Europe (PAL).

My computer can play Region 2 DVDs, although there's only a certain amount of times in which I can do that. I'm probably just going to keep my computer at Region 2 and then watch my regular movies on something else.

Yeah, I was going to say, I've read some very old English translations, but they were in black and white.

I've seen those in stores. I'm not sure if the Soviet story has been reprinted in color yet.

Did that Tintin store have a copy of The Alphart, with translation? That's number one on my wish list at the moment.

Upping this, just watched a stage production of Tintin and Tibet here in London. Great performance!
