I found a book in a secondhand bookshop this weekend by another author, throwing Tintin "into the world of sex and romance". Rogue, I believe you've read this - care to enlighten us?

It's Tintin in Love right? I haven't seen that one in stores.

Yeah, I've seen them in stores - the Congo was just rereleased in Color.

That's cool. I used to love Tin-Tin when I was younger and re-read them a gazillion times from the library. I never did find the Congo one so I bought it in Duth when I went to visit my relatives. This thread brings back fond memories and makes me want to buy them.

My family is working on building up a collection. We've got quite a few, although I can't remember which ones we have back at home.

If it's the one I told you about before, Boogie, it's Tintin in the New World: A Romance by Frederic Tuten.

I have not read it, only read about it. It apparently sees Tintin and Haddock meeting up with the characters from Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain (stay with me here!). Many philosophical debates follow and Tintin has sex with the female lead from Mann's novel.

Tuten has stated that Tintin never achieved 'emotional maturity' in Herge's series and this was an attempt to rectify that. I say Tuten obviously missed Tintin in Tibet if he thinks Tintin never hit emotional maturity.

Regardless, sounds like the stupidest idea I've ever heard.

That's the one. I was debating picking it up, but it was a whole $7 ( shock Okay, I'm cheap tongue ) and I agree that it does sound like the stupidest idea ever.

I heard about it, but I don't think that i'd ever want to read it.

After hearing Rogue on the subject, I got my first Tintin through the library. It's "The Blue Lotus". Haven't finished it yet.

Wasn't Spielberg gonna make a TINTIN movie? There was even a rumour he wanted Lucas to direct it. I wonder what happened with that because it certainly would have been interesting.

They would need a francophone kid to play him. I thought he was supposed to be about 15 or 16, but apparently he is in his 20's?

Excellent work. You'll enjoy it, Zaz.

Also, I think the Spielberg thing has been on-and-off. I doubt it'll ever happen.

Did they original appear in newspapers in a strip? Because the plot seems to play that way: cliffhanger/action/cliffhanger...

I think so. Rogue knows more than I, but I think the earlier ones appeared as installments, whereas the later ones were released as full albums.

Up until mid to late thirties, I think, they were newspaper comics, printed a page at a time. Then some stuff went down with the Nazis and Herge's paper got shut down. Shortly after, he got the offer for album printing and he went for it.

And they started to improve after that, so not all bad.
