After getting all the available seasons on DVD for Christmas and watching them Im ready to make a serious argument that the show is the best representation of the Superman story ever put on any screen. The idea of Luthor and Kent being best friends was IMHO the major roll of the die that the shows' producers took, but largely due the brilliant acting of Michael Rosenbaum its probably the shows greatest strength. Are you Superman fans buying or selling?

i'm a big fan of the show. i really liked how Rosenbaum portrays Lex and how the story goes w/ him and clark starting off as friends. the only thing i can say i didn't like about the show is in the 4th season when they went w/ that lana being possessed by some witch and she was connected to the stones

Its an incredible show and every time it borders on the usual WB cheese it suprises me by not going there. I really hope they end the show this season, although Im hearing that thats not going to be the case. Rosenbaum is a revelation and is in my mind the definitive Lex Luthor and Im a huge Gene Hackman fan saying that. Its also a heartbreaking show which beckons back to Shusters and Siegals original premise of the solitude and lonlieness of this amazing character of Americana, something the films ( with the exception of the very beginning of part one and the very end of part two ) miss completely. When the show first came out I refused to watch it because I convinced myself that it would dilude the very rich and deep fabric of the Superman myth. I was completely wrong and it turns out that its the most thoughtful handling of Superman - be it tv, movies, and even alot of the post Shuster and Siegal comic work.

Hey, if you wanna talk Smallville. I'm right there with you. I didn't catch it til halfway through season 1. I thought it was an absolutely awful idea and just craps all over Superman and to some extent Christopher Reeve. I mean...Superman by way of Dawson's creek???
and now...
It really is one of the better shows on tv. The acting by everyone has improved a great deal (though Rosenbaum has always been excellent), the storyline is coming together and it has just the right amount of story mixed in with some great action. It's a fine addition to the lore that is Superman. I still love the original 78 movie though.
You got all four seasons of it for Christmas. A great present..pretty expensive to get all in one shot..but a great present nontheless.

I caught this show while spending time in South America of all places. It was the episode where Clark discovers his heat vision. It was funny & entertaining so I caught a few more episodes and got hooked. I bought the dvd series as soon as they became available. I like how they respect the Superman mythos but aren't enslaved by it. The cast has terrific chemistry with Rosenbaum & Glover standing out. Now I live in Asia & can only watch new episodes online, but luckily the dvd season set is much cheaper. My girlffriend has also become a fan of the show but she knows nothing of the Superman legend. It's interesting to see her reaction to things seen for the first time since Superman has become a part of American culture and she has no idea of it. Hopefully the WB/UPN merger won't effect negatively on the show.

I agree that this for the most part is a good show. I think last season had a few to many 'WB Cheese' episodes, but I guess that is to be expected. However, the shows where they progress the Superman mythos are top notch. The best example being last years 2 hour season finale...IMO that 2 hours was just as good as any Superman movie
I really look forward to seeing tonights episode since someone is going to die. Heres hoping it is not Lana.
I personally think it is going to be Chloe which is too bad since her character has gotten so much better this season.

I think Jonathan is going to die on the show tonight.
I got bored with the show last season so I stopped watching it for awhile. It just didn't feel like Superman. I started watching it again when Chloe found out about Clark's secret though.
IMO Michael Rosenbaum is the best thing about Smallville. His portrayl of Lex is the most believable, capivating, and honest that I've ever seen. He is without a doubt the best actor in the cast.

I agree. Why else would Clark Kent be a reporter at the Daily Planet when he grows up? If you follow the show Clark really isnt all that into being a reporter for the high school paper, whilst its Chloes' dream job to work at the Daily Planet. It'd be a fitting way to honor his best friend if she were happen to die, which I believe is going to happen no matter what, even if its not even in tonights episode.

Itd be even more intriguing if they killed off Lana. I dont watch the show anymore but Ive been keeping up with this, plus I heard that the characters death messes somewhat with continuity that's already been established in the comics, so perhaps it is her. Not only that, but I read that Clark tells Lana his secret tonight and they get engaged. What better way to ensure that she will never tell anyone by killing her off ? Not only that, but her death obviously paves the way for Lois. Unlikely, but hey, you never know, right ?

Anythings a possiblity with that show. I mean successfully creating a believable, even poignant, relationship between Lex and Clark wouldve been laughable until you actually saw it, but they did it.

yeah exactly..Clark and Lex knowing each other..and liking each other before they became the people we know. The thought was very laughable..but it has turned out to be a very cool thing actually. Well, I don't think Chloe is gonna be the one to go tonight..although I think your right Severian...I think she will die before the show ends...paving the way for Clark and his Journalism.

Awesome show. Been watching it since day one. However, I missed a lot of the episodes last season because I had class the same night it was on and my VCR wasn't working at the time. I missed the whole Lana as a witch thing. I also don't understand how Lois Lane is in the show since, going by the movies, Clark doesn't meet her until he moves to Metropolis. I missed the first episode she was introduced, so I may have missed a plot point or something.
As for tonight's episode, it was great. I just watched it. It was one of the best episodes ever, almost as good as the season ender a few years ago when Chole almost died in the bomb explosion of her house.
I read that some of you thought it was going to be Lana that was going to die. It couldn't have been Lana since she is in Superman III. I wont give it away just in case some of you didn't see tonights episode. I guess it fits a little with the whole story line but not 100%.

The movies, comics, etc have absolutely nothing to do with the show. Don't assume just because one is one way that the other will be the same.

Great episode - very powerful, and it also dispels the long running myth about the " good "Jor-L, which was perpetuated by the movies - " their capacity for good " and all that crap. He put his son on Earth because he knew he would be the superior being. Jonathan Kent is the man who makes Kal-L the bastion of good and righteousness that he is. Im not saying that Jor-L is evil, because by the standards of the highly evolved Krypton he is righteous and just, but thats just the point, Jor-L never could rationilize in his highly evolved intellect just how different the standard was/is on Earth. Its Jonathan Kent that gives that to Superman.
