Weezer, a few tiny changes in story line I can see. Even the three Krypton villains escaping temporaly I can buy, but the writers are not going to kill off a character like Lana who actually appeared in a movie.
Besides, a few years ago there was an episode where a kid that can tell the future about how a person is going to die by holding their hand, showed us that Lana will die in a bed at a very old age.

But the movies have nothing to do with the show. At all. She could be in five movies and it wouldn't matter. Its a mute point but it was still my point.

I think the point is that there is no " definitive " canon to the Superman mythology. Theres tons of stuff about the movies and the post-Shuster and Siegal comics that totally doesnt sit well with me - the common misconception of Jor-Ls' motives as Ive already said being one of them. The idea that Lois Lane is the love of his life and he'd be with her forever is another ( solitude, if anything, is the tragic personal legacy of Superman ). I think Smallville would make Shuster and Siegel the most proud.

EDIT - but I totally agree with you weezer - the show is supposed to be totally revisionistic - of the movies most especially. Its supposed to be like " this is the way WE think it went down " ( and set in a modern time, off course ). Although the " Planet Krypton " musical piece from the original films ( the music from the trailer of the upcoming film ) when Clark fully realizes his origins in the episode with Reeves from season 2 sent major chills down my spine.

I have a feeling that Jonathan Kent will be back some how, sometime. Most likely Jor-El bringing him back. They could say that Jonathan had to fake his own death and had to go into witness protection or something like that because someone wanted to kill him.
So in my opinion, unless John Schneider wanted to be let go from the show, I think we will see him again in not just flash back scenes.

Smallville, what a great show! And I'm a guy who never read comics or liked the concpet of superheroes. OK, Superman was cool as an icon, when I was a kid, but growing up, I never thought I will be sticking each Saturday ion my TV and watch young Supes growing up (and thank God, not Superboy!). The acting is phenomenal for a TV series (the episode "Memoria" where Lex confronts his father with the truth about his dead brother) and each time I keep wondering what did it take for making a single episode - both in financial and artistic terms. Well done to everyone working in the series, it's simply great, even if some episodes are meh! applause

It really is amazing how the producers of the show, WB producers no less, are so reverential to the Superman story. They have a clear sense of nostalgia amd still manage to make it fresh for a modern audience. Really, bravo to them for that.

"Smallville"

"Lana absorbs Clark's powers, showdown ensues. Is it just me, or does every Smallville episode seem born of 3 a.m. tacos-and-tequila-fueled debates of who'd kick whose ass in a death match?"

Sometimes descriptions of shows seem completely demented...

Smallville is actually starting to bore me. They are straying way to far from the established canon. And Clark's like 21 now, but he still can't fly?

I agree that Smallville is not as strong as what it use to be.

Everyone is getting into these huge situations.

I think this is a show that would benefit from knowing when the end is that way it can establish a story and work towards that.

I still think the guy who places Lex (can not think of his name) is easily the best Lex.

I agree with you Wild_Kardde

The show never bores me..cause I love all things Superman....but they are starting to stray from canon a little too much; course..it has always been a new interpretation...with some minor changes here and there...to make the stories easier...(Metropolis only being an hour away, the meteor storm..etc etc) and it never bothered me.

but...they need to start focusing more on Superman now...
