Ooh. Indy and Star Trek both back in the same summer. Cool.

I'm curious: how much control did/does George have as producer of the series? I know he has a lot of creative input, but is he the real mastermind while Spielberg executes it, or is it a 50/50 thing?

Indy is essentially Lucas's creation. He chose not to direct for the same reasons he chose not to direct ESB and RotJ--the first Star Wars burned him out.

As for this finally going into production soon . . . thank God. I'm glad it's a character piece too. This one should answer the question of what exactly makes Indy a hero. I remember when Shyamalan was attached to this (remember? Six years ago?). He wrote a notebook full of ideas, and along with Lucas, came up with an outline that was according to Shyamalan "much more introspective." I have a feeling this could be the best one since Raiders.

They really just need to do what Rocky Balboa did, and play up his age. Indy is a senior citizen now, and that needs to be in the forefront of the plot. Something BIG has to make him come out of retirement.

I had previously heard that Connery was interested in appearing (maybe just a small part) in Indy IV. Anyone know his current status?

p.s. Let's get this script to John Williams, so he can get a head start!!

I know. That scares me. How can you do it without JW? But the music's the last thing you do worried ...

I don't know. This could be bad. But I also think there's a potential here for this to be really good, though the chances are probably smaller. Of course I'll see it. And I know some people have just wanted it to die, but I have to say that since I've been following this production for at least 10 years, I really just want it to be made. I'm glad it's a go. But I still won't believe it until I see it tongue

Why on Earth is there any doubt that Williams will be involved? The last Spielberg movie that Williams didn't score was The Color Purple. Sean Connery is another story, but I bet he would do it for Spielberg and Lucas.

I've heard Williams almost never reads scripts.
They bring the completed cut of the film to him, and he's off to the races.

Scripts don't help a composer very much. It's the images, the rhythm and
pacing of the action, and the emotional moments of the actors that a composer
feeds off of...and of course in this case, the main theme is already written!

I cannot imagine Williams not doing this. True, he's getting old, but he's
still busy and I think he'll work until he's no longer able. I think it's his
love of music and movies that keeps him young and energized. And he always
enjoys working with Steven and George. There's absolutely no reason to think
Williams wouldn't do this, unless he suddenly announces he's retiring. And I
can't imagine him announcing retirement with Indy IV needing a score. wink

Well, Williams got to read the ROTS script ahead of time.

Anyhow, my main point was "let's hope this film gets made while JW is still alive and composing".

I still don't think it will be made. Lucas has said filming will start so many times before that it's lost meaning

The fact is that Spielberg has said it's his next movie. And now Lucas is saying it'll film this year. It'll happen.

I will beleive it when I see a film starting date. Lucas has announced it's happening so many times that skepticism until we have a formal statement from Spielberg and Ford it justifed.
I also have concerns over the script. When a script has been through this many rewrites and versions, it is usually not a good sign.
