The first one looks like those old labels on fruit boxes.
The second one looks like an upscale seed catelogue.
What they don't look like is rock/pop album covers.

After a sadly lengthy sabbatical from this thread, the book finally came in from the library, so I can start back!
52.
Rolling Stone:
With the Beatles (1963) - The Beatles
Book:
Kings of Noise (1979) - Slammin’ Watusis
The first one is an icon and it’s brilliant; I love the starkness of the image and it’s very
simplicity is part of its beauty.
The second one, well, this image is washed out; the one in the book is much brighter.
Doesn’t affect the central issue though, which is that, washed out or not, this one is quite
ugly.

The first is brilliant; the second is melting ice cream.

With The Beatles is iconic, and a great work of art in itself.

Random Beatles Trivia: Ringo is lower down because he's less talented.

The beatles covers are all awesome, so I go for the With Beatles cover over the kings of Noise.

Back to this one after a very long hiatus:
51:
Rolling Stone:
Electric Ladyland (1968) - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Book:
The Last Testament (?) - Various
no image found
My thoughts:
The original UK cover for Electric Ladyland, of course, featured a bunch of nudity, but it was only pressed because the above artwork didn't reach the publishers in time; the above is both the original and the official cover, so that's the one I posted here.
The Last Testament was an album released by a record label that was folding (the name slips my mind) and contained work from all of that label's artists. I don't recall what the cover looked like and can't find a picture online. Can't even find record of it on allmusic, so it must be beyond obscure.

I couldn't find it, either.
"Electric Ladyland" is very striking, though.

The Hendrix is pretty good, as album covers go.
Is this it? I found it in about two seconds.
EDIT: Brokey. Hold on, I'll host it somewhere...

Yes, that's it. Thanks a bunch.
50.
Rolling Stone
Houses of the Holy (1973) - Led Zeppelin
Book
Lenox Avenue Breakdown (1978) - Arthur Blythe
My thoughts:
The Led Zep one we've talked about before; striking.
The Blythe one, I quite like. Blythe is a saxophonist, of course, and the cover has wit and charm.

They're both terrible.
Hipgnosis was so awful.

#49:
Rolling Stone
Doc at the Radar Station (1980) - Captain Beefheart
Book
Liquid Love (1975) - Freddie Hubbard
My thoughts:
The Captain Beefheart one is here because the Captain himself painted it; he's apparently making some kind of a living now as a painter as opposed to a musician, so I guess he's improved since he did this one, which isn't that great.
The other one isn't very good either; I apologize for the crappy image, but you're not really missing much. It's a mermaid with a sunburst around her head and it's kind of art deco.
