At least, it has Kate Beckinsale as a nurse...

A very hollow and superficial movie. I remember reading one review years ago that a made a particularly poignant voice; The sudden voice-over narration by Beckinsale at the end drives home the point that the film itself has no voice.

The visuals are amazing in this film. I would love to see a film with the story of Tora Tora Tora with the VFX of Pearl Harbour.

One thing Pearl Harbor didn't bother to pay any attention to was background detail, but considering they had the heroes flying every aerial action from the Battle of Britain to the Doolittle Raid, it's almost not worth mentioning.
However, when I saw it on the big screen, I could swear I saw hull numbers from modern USN Pacific Fleet frigates and destroyers being blown up in 1941. The lines of some of those ships came nowhere near matching those of 1930s-vintage destroyers and destroyer escorts. The Wiki for the movie confirms that USS Whipple (a Knox class destroyer escort FF-1032) and an Iowa-class battleship on Battleship Row, not to mention the North Carolina class battleship spotted in Japanese photo-recon shots are all sighted in background and in some cases, foreground detail.

QFT. That would sort of be like remaking A Night to Remember with Titanic caliber special effects and visual accuaracy. It would be a gaurunteed hit.

I found he was more trying to make up for the lack of story with special effects.
I didn't find this was the case in Titanic, IMO.

Agreed. Titanic had a good story. Pearl Harbour had a well executed battle, but that was all.

Ah, now here's a movie I love.
Next, Platoon - Oliver Stone
A truly great movie. When I was watching it I admit I wasn't paying very much attention to this historical accuracy more than the firefights and the characters. Now that I look back on it, they did quite a good job.
Platoon - Historical Accuracy
Platoon met with considerable controversy, widespread critical acclaim, and surprising box-office success on its theatrical release, and its status as a national event was officially certified by its 1986 Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director. Although the film was vilified by some critics on the right (who denounced it as a left-wing rant against America's role in the war) as well as by some on the left (for whom the film was too narrowly focused and failed to make any effort to explain the underlying reasons for the U.S. presence in Vietnam), the film became a vehicle for a new popular interpretation which simultaneously decried the bogus nature of the war and honored the sacrifice made by tens of thousands of young Americans. For many Vietnam veterans, who had the misfortune to serve in an unpopular war, one widely regarded as America's first military defeat, the film represented a long- delayed measure of national respect. The care and attention that has gone into the production of Pioneer's Special Edition laserdisc clearly befits the historical significance of Oliver Stone's film.

Agreed. Platoon is a great movie and right behind Saving Private Ryan as one of the greatest war movies EVER.

There's still some juice left in this, I think.
Platoon was an incredibly well made film. They paid attention to the historical accuracy and on top of that, had very nice cinematography and special effects (Bullets and whatnot)
Excellent film.

And...here's a Yahoo list of the "10 Most Historically Inaccurate Movies"
1. "10,000 BC"
"Director Roland Emmerich is usually a stickler for realism (see: sending a computer virus via Macintosh to aliens in Independence Day). So we hate to inform him that woolly mammoths were not, in fact, used to build pyramids. Heck, woolly mammoths weren't even found in the desert. They wouldn't need to be woolly if that were the case. And there weren't any pyramids in Egypt until 2,500 B.C or so."

Next: "Gladiator"
"Emperor Commodus was not the sniveling sister-obsessed creep portrayed in the movie. A violent alcoholic, sure, but not so whiny. He ruled ably for over a decade rather than ineptly for a couple months. He also didn't kill his father, Marcus Aurelius, who actually died of chickenpox. And instead of being killed in the gladiatorial arena, he was murdered in his bathtub."
