Perhaps second best Who album. Only Quadrophenia is better. The idea of doing an album that sounded like some Radio Luxembourg was brilliant. The commercials both on the album cover and on the actual album were also fantastic.

As for my personal favourite song it's I Can't Reach You. Relatively simple and effective song with fascinating lyrics unlike on any previous Who song.

Also I would like to point out that the remastered version of the album is a must. It doubles the original album length without breaking the mood for a moment.

The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967) - The Velvet Underground and Nico

Tracks:

1. Sunday Morning
2. I'm Waiting for the Man
3. Femme Fatale
4. Venus in Furs
5. Run Run Run
6. All Tomorrow's Parties
7. Heroin
8. There She Goes Again
9. I'll Be Your Mirror
10. The Black Angel's Death Song
11. European Son

Certainly an infamous album; much of it holds up. Reed's a very expressive vocalist and the band works very well together.

Waiting for the Man is a great twitchy drug song and Run Run Run is loads of genius. It's noted for it's experimentation, but it doesn't all work. The dissonance works wonderfully in the outstanding Heroin. But Black Angel's Death Song and European Son just seem interminable and utterly devoid of anything except experimentation for its own sake.

But definitely a great album.

I love "Waiting For The Man," "Run, Run, Run," "Femme Fatale," and especially "I'll Be Your Mirror." My favorite "experimental" piece on here is "Venus In Furs."

this is a great album. I love "heroin", it is, as you've said before rogue, a song that uses distortion perfectly.

One of my profs likes to say that Velvet Underground is the most influential rock band of all time, because even though only 50,000 people bought their albums originally, every single one of them started a band wink

I haven't heard this entire album... this is probably a mistake, huh?

Yes, sadly, about all of those bands sucked. tongue

Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim (1967) - Frank Sinatra & Antonio Jobim

Tracks:

1. The Girl from Ipanema
2. Dindi
3. Change Partners
4. Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars
5. Meditation
6. If You Never Come to Me
7. How Insensitive
8. I Concentrate on You
9. Baubles, Bangles and Beads
10. Once I Loved

This would probably be interesting; these two sharing album space sounds unique, at least. Haven't heard it.

Very famous album; there is an accompanying TV special that I once saw a rerun of--it was great, and I'm not generally a fan of Sinatra's era.

The Doors (1967) - The Doors

Tracks:

1. Break On Through
2. Soul Kitchen
3. The Crystal Ship
4. Twentieth Century Fox
5. Alabama Song
6. Light My Fire
7. Back Door Man
8. I Looked At You
9. End of the Night
10. Take It As It Comes
11. The End

An amazing debut; it isn't the band's best album, but it's definitely a great album. The rampaging Break On Through is one of the strongest album openers of all time and The End is a purely apocalyptic slice of greek tragedy. And you've got the amazing Light My Fire as well. Plus, Morrison actually manages to outdo Howlin' Wolf on his cover of Back Door Man and I wouldn't thought that possible.

Outstanding album.

Um, no. Morrison's version is different, but he does not outdo the Wolf.

Great album. This, along with LA Woman, are my favorite Doors albums.

This is one of the strongest debut albums of all time. They were working on this material live for a while prior to its recording, which is why it sounds so tight. Consider that it was recorded in less than a week on an analog four track recorder, and that most bands can't sound nearly this good with a 64 track digital machine and modern istruments on their career-best album. It's a true classic. I have trouble deciding whether this or LA Woman is the best Doors album.
