I can't stand Australian Idol.
I feel sorry for the people that win these shows. Most of the time they're talented singers who are forced to quickly record an album that they have no input in, with the song selection not suited to who they are. Most of these albums therefore don't sell very well and the artist is never heard from again.

The winner and the runner up (moreso the runner up) from the first one do.
The winner fromt he second one bombed, whilst the runner up isn't doing much better.
The winner from the third one is in a group wiht other idols doing cover songs
We've just finished the fourth one, but the winners single is selling well apparently.

Happened to catch the thread title. I've been with the show since the beginning, thoroughly enjoy it, although I never vote.
The winner and the runner up (moreso the runner up) from the first one do.
Yeah, both Guy and Shannon have had quite a bit of success. Nothing compared or like Kelly Clarkson, but still some in their home country.
The winner fromt he second one bombed, whilst the runner up isn't doing much better.
The winner of the second one should have never won in the first place. Wasn't a surprise that she bombed - too young to capitalise on it, and didn't have the image for marketing groups to exploit. She hasn't really released anything except for that first rushed album to my awareness. The runner-up, on the other hand, and on this I disagree with you, is doing much better compared to Casey (winner). Anthony (runner-up) still holds the record for the highest selling single
ever
in Australia. He'd easily be doing as well as Guy I reckon.
The winner from the third one is in a group wiht other idols doing cover songs
I agree with
on their songs, however at least, for them, they're getting somewhere. Kind of. At least for cover groups or what you would call them. The third show was the worst from the get-go anyway.
We've just finished the fourth one, but the winners single is selling well apparently.
It usually does. Damien (winner) should hopefully do well here. He's the only one I would consider getting the album of, along with Bobby (contestant from this show). Also, the best thing to come from this show is the fact that they're not going to rush out his first album. So we'll just have to see for this fella.
My answer to Zaz's question would basically be: in Australia, some yes. Nothing like Clarkson though if you're looking for comparison. However, your other Idols I've never heard from unless I specifically went to find them. So it might be similar to them (successful only in their country?).

America's Most Talented Kids
.
(from TV.com)
Originally on: PAX (60 min.)
Status: Ended Premiered: March 28, 2003 Last Aired: September 1, 2006
Show Categories: Children, Variety Shows
The antidote for the cutthroat vote-'em-off-the-island reality shows (i.e. Survivor and Big Brother) and brutal talent shows (American Idol) so popular in the early 2000's was this sweet show, in which fresh faced, talented youngsters age three to 15 strutted their stuff before an adoring audience. The kids were divided into three categories, three to seven, eight to 12, and 13 to 15, with three contestant's in each category competing each week. They could do anything-sing, dance, rap, play an instrument-while parents lovingly watched and boyish host Mario Lopez and the audience clapped, laughed and offered encouragement. At the end of the performances in each category the judges punched in their scores for talent and showmanship, and the contestant with the highest average score advanced to the next round. There was no cutting remarks or evaluations, although at the end of each round the judges offered a few comments on how great the kids were. Lance Bass (of *NSYNC fame) was the solo permanent judge, joined each week by two guest judges such as rapper Sisqo, former Brady Buncher Maureen McCormick, Jermaine Jackson and Daisy Fuentes. Almost every kid in the contest was rated a 9 or better on a ten-point scale, and make no mistake they were quite talented. An endless parade pint-sized rappers and tiny tykes with booming voices were seen each week. Occasionly one was a bit bizarre, such as the spike-haired white teenager who gave an impassioned delivery of "We Shall Overcome" while black rapper Sisqo looked on in disbelief. The honor of being AMTK's first winner, fell to a mega-talented young lady, 12 year old guitarist/songwriter Cheyenne Kimball, who took home the Grand Prize of $50,000. Show History : This show was originally a limited-run Friday night summer series on NBC in 2003. After it's first season it was not picked up for the fall line-up. In early May 2004 PAX announced the series return as a part of their 2004-2005 season schedule. Season Two Promo : From the schoolyard to the stage come "America's Most Talented Kids!" The one-hour musical variety show puts the spotlight on amazing child performers who compete for a chance at stardom. Bringing a unique element to the competition, these fresh, young contestants will be judged by people they can really relate to – today's hottest child stars.

I did see some of this, and it was a hugely creepy experience. I mean, they should show it in psych-classes-creepy.
I would hereby like to thank my parents for telling me frankly that I have a moose-call voice and no talent. Because the alternative is this show, where a bunch of no-talents are forced by their parental units to expose their non-talent in public. The parents are so deluded and the kids so pressured that's it's like watching child abuse.
Horrifying.

Attack of the Show (or "AOTS")--the self-proclaimed "show that gets it before it gets out"--is a signature show of G4, the video game network. There's the inside track, and then there are those who pave the inside track. Attack of the Show gets you inside, underneath, around, and behind the newest tech, the hottest games, the fastest-breaking news, and the oddest oddities from the fringe. In addition to reporting the hot Internet memes of the day, AOTS features interviews with both famous and internet-famous celebrities, the most-blogged news of the day, coverage of alt-events like the Geek Prom and the Modern Drunkard Festival, and the latest games and gear for PCs and consoles. AOTS is also well-known for its regular weekly segments such as "Gems of the Internet," "DVDuesday," "It Came From eBay," "The Feed," "User Created," "AOTS LAN Party," "Free Play Friday," and "Damn Good Download."

My roommate is a huge fan of everything G4. Personally, the only AOTS stuff I've seen are the episodes where they did SomethingAwful and Mega64. The SA interview with Dr. David Thorpe was especially hilarious. Speaking of which, Mega64 would make a good subject for this thread.
Question: did the show actually get its name from Attack of the Clones?

It's all right. It's just hilarious how they go from talking about the PS3 to sex advice. I don't think people who play PS3 take sex advice from G4.

Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve has been a New Year's tradition for decades. Many people the country over wait for the ball to drop in New York City's Times Square with Dick Clark. The show promises great musical performers and live coverage of New Year's Eve festivities. The show airs every New Year's Eve with the exception of 1999, when there was a special new millennium coverage. Dick Clark did a small segment for that year. And in 2004, Dick Clark did not host the show due to illness.
This year Ryan Seacrest and TV legend Dick Clark shared hosting duties at this 34th annual celebration. Wait for the sparkling ball to drop with musical guest Christina Aguilera and celebrities like Nicole Richie, Vanessa Williams, Tommy Lee, William Shatner, Tori Spelling, Katharine McPhee, and many more!
