I've heard most of their albums since Mother's Milk, and you have to understand I'm only 24, so I obviously wasn't a fan of theirs when I was little. So, I've just heard their albums, postmordem.

I just feel that they went totally downhill, after Mother's Milk(Rick Rubin is known for taking great talent, and making them bankable to mass majority radioheads, while takimng away their original sound).

I agree the sound changed completely (mainly due to the death of Hillel), but John Frusciante is one of the most creative and artistic guitar-players around today and while By The Way wasn't exactly their high-point, Stadium Arcadium is simply amazing. Hillel was an amazing guitar-player, but if any of the subsequent guitarists emulated him, you'd get a weaker version of the Chili Peppers.

I often wonder where they would have gone if Hillel had lived and was playing with them. In Anthony's autobiography Scar Tissue he tells how easy it was to write a song with Hillel, but with John it's even easier. If you read Scar Tissue (I'm just assuming you haven't tongue ), you get a wonderful insight into why the bands change their sound. They like to perpetrate their cosmic love for life through their music and they adapt their style to suit how they are feeling.

For example, Kiedis has said that while recording Stadium Arcadium, every single member of the band was in love and this greatly affected how they wrote songs and what the subject matter was. Initially I disliked SA, but after listening to it for hours I find it to be my favourite album. It's a record that shows people what the Red Hot Chili Peppers are about. Turning wonderful and happy emotions into songs.

Did they not? I saw them on Friday 14th July and they were brilliant. A nice mix of the new songs and the classics. John even played Nobody Weird Like Me, which was quite a shock.

Playlist.

Intro - About 10 minutes of John and Flea jamming.

Can't Stop
Dani California
Scar Tissue
Charlie
Fortune Faded

How Deep Is Your Love? - John performed this solo.

21st Century
Parallel Universe
Snow (Hey Oh)
Nobody Weird Like Me
Wet Sand
London Calling/Right On Time - Intro to London Calling, then straight into the song.
Don't Forget Me
I Could Have Lied
Tell Me Baby
Californication
By the Way

Drum Solo - The awesome power of Chad Smith.

Under the Bridge
Give It Away - Followed by a 15 minute jam between John, Flea and Chad.

I really like the peppers but the radio stations in vegas have overplayed the songs till they get so annoying I don't want to listen to them.

I liked "Whats Your Story" the most when the CD came out but I change the radio station everytime it comes on because it's so overplayed.

dkt

That playlist is awesome, I hope it's somewhat similar when they play in Philly.

EDIT: Although it's kinda weird that they're not playing "Stadium Arcadium", isn't it?

I just got tickits to the Show in Toronto, I think its going to be great. Its my first real concert so I figure I better start with the best.
To those who have seen them recently, do they play a mix of stuff or just their new work?

They usually play a mix of things, though they don't traditionally go further back in their catalogue than BSSM or Mother's Milk (at least, that was my experience with the By the Way tour). Generally, Californication is a standard, as is Give It Away. I don't know how they've been going about this tour, but with the size of this album, I would think it would be reasonable to expect more of a slant toward their new material.
